I was a bit bored this afternoon, so I thought I would see if the "finish" on the WIP cue was ready for "finishing".

Pict 1 - The cue with the glue on it, not sanded or polished.

Pict 2 and 3 - Sanding the glue.

Pict 4 - Time to raid the Car Care Cabinet.

    G'Day Stirlo,

Well, I ended up polishing up the finish on the cue on Sunday Night.

I took some pictures, but once you re-size them they are not the best.

I might try and take some better ones tommorow night.

Here is a link to a short video.

Only one thing to do now,....see how the cue plays.

Love your work and the thread.

If you place the cue on a white background and crop all round, the reduced photo can have more detail. The trouble with interesting backgrounds is that they take up heaps of size.

    Keep up the good work.

    Cheers
    Neil

    Thanks dai sensei,

Yes I agree with you. Colourful backgrounds do take up a lot of space (mega pixle wise). The red colour is the cloth on my pool table.

My main problem is pool cues, being long and thin are hard to take good photos of, especially with my old digital camera (its about 5 years old), and cost 3 arms and 4 legs when we got it back then.

I have experimented with different backgrounds, but with no real success at the moment.

    I will keep trying though....CHeers.........

Well, the WIP cue is finished, and the only thing left to do is take it for a test drive.

I need to see how it "Plays". A cue should "play" well, or "Hit" well first, looking pretty should come second.

I shot a couple of games of 8-Ball (bigs and littles, stripes and solids, yellows and reds) with it, and it shoots like a dream. I think it is the fact that is has a fairly solid section of bubinga that gives it this attribute.

If you have a high speed connection you may find the following links worth a look.

In the mean time, keep a lookout for updates on the other 3 cues over the coming months..........

The cue looks great but I would be castrated if I bought a pool cue that cost that much.....

Hmm perhaps the cost is worth it.... nah I want more babies!!

Well done on the great work.

    He He.

Mate, check out the vids I posted. The cue just doesen't miss. You would easily win the money back no worries !! And a free castration from the missus, its all good.

Well, there was that 15 years of practice.......

Hey purp I know what you are talking about...

I used to manage a bar in Canberra and having the access to great tables really does hone ones skills. Been ten years since then so by now I could not hit a barn door with a shotgun.......

    Still they are nice cues.

with all the work and the quality of the finish i would buy that cue,- if i had a table and the skills to use it.. ps purple heart what is your opinion on other pool cues that are made in lotys of 100 or 1000's, that are more elaborate then yours. are they machine made or made in devloping nations where labour is cheap? and they are obvously not one of a kind cues...

Yep, thats pretty much it. Some are made in their thousands using cheap labor and often inferior woods (ramin). Others have their patterns stencilled on (paint, not inlayed wood). Some larger firms do runs of 100 or 500 and sell them as "custom" cues, but I guess that just comes down to your definition of custom. Some of them will play ok, and some...well.....they wont play great but they might look flash.

The WIP cue was just made from offcuts, but if my cuebuilding mentor had made it, I am sure he would ask about $US1000 for it, and he would get it cause he had been making cues for about 30 years and his name on the cue means it is the only one of its kind in the workd, and its a quatily item. I guess in 25 years, that would be a nice position to be in.

I can (and have) made much more fancy cues that the WIP cue, so stay tuned and see how the others turn out. Just have to get my butt back out into the workshop (seems to have been cold out there lately !).

I've definately got to finish another one before christmas.

    Cheers
