New project NG Rosewood Chair prototype.
I set myself a few goals with this chair (not complete yet) that it all be from the one 2" board that all mortices be cut with router and only 1 setup. that the shaped seat not take 3 million years to shape (still working on that Idea) & lastly that it or multiples of it can be made in less than 30 hours apiece.
First pic is just coz I love to resaw stock for jobs like this.

Good looking design Ross, I like the high back they have a nice shape and it goes well with the square shape frame.
Are they for your own use or will they sale items?
He he, did you try the side rails like this...

Dont get too used to the "square" look I am yet to shape the front legs, front rail, back legs below the rails or the tall back members hope to cut the weight by about 20% +.
I decided to work out the joinery and then remove what wasnt needed but I also like the Square Arts & Crafts look as well. Might make it both ways.Ross"All government in essence," says Emerson, "is tyranny." It matters not whether it is government by divine right or majority rule. Coming along nicely, Different. Seat rails are an eye-catcher.
Are the back stiles bent or cut from the solid? Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

The line of the back looks really graceful, looking forward to seeing it when the other members have been shaped. The big rail should survive even the largest lard@rse rocking back on the chair, but maybe some sort of curve on the underside could be the go. The chair is starting to look comfortable already.
Setting some boundaries to work within can often result in an elegant solution - looks like this might be it. Go for it.

Hey Ross, what I ment by the square shape is the shape of the squab support(rails)and splay of the legs. Most of the highback chairs that I have had a looksee at have the front legs set wider apart than the back legs... Hmmm angled M&T's!

Coming along nicely Ross, Im keeping an eye on your progress as I'd like too make some for myself one day... so I'll keep procasternating for a while yet!
Cant quite make out the seat squab in your photo's its a bit to pixelated, you could make the pictures smaller and increase the quality level... the pictures are 1200x1600pixels(huge!) would be better around 600x800 that way they'd fit on the screen without having to scroll and you could improve the quality greatly while keeping the same file size.....................................................................
