    Default some of my projects

    Hi all

Still a bit of a newbie to the forum, so I thought I would break the ice and show some of my projects I have done this year.

The first is a new 6 seat dining table. The chairs I found on the side of the road. There where 6, 4 have been restored just 2 left. Apparently, they where stage chairs. After taking the matt black paint of them we found them to be solid hardwood, one was stamped made in Italy. Not sure on that though. Any way the table has Elm laminated to a 10mm ply top (the elm was cut, dried and milled by me). It has WA Kari as an edging to dress it up a bit and WA Kari and Red gum Legs (recycled timber yard for that stuff).

The bedside tables are made from Vic Ash or Tasi Oak (same stuff just different state). The tops are Californian Redwood (Sequoia Sempervirens) I was working with a tree crew and we took this 100ft tree down, climbing and rigging, some where in Toorak. I salvaged some and milled and dried it. The draw knobs are hand turned Sheaok another tree that I took down and milled, handy when you are a tree surgeon.

I found the Redwood very soft, soften than pine. Would it be because it was only 25 years old?

    Hope you like them.

    Jamie

    Dave,

Some very nice work there, Jamie. I particularly like the bedside tables -- the proportions look so good. And the cloth lined baskets underneath give them a nice cosy feel.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Very nice bedside tables Jamie and a great finish . I suppose when you want a paticular type of timber you walk around the suburbs until you see the tree you want and then offer to prune it for free
