Prototype Pictish harp
After struggling with health issues after health issues, I finally managed to finish my prototype Pictish harp, based on the Dupplin Cross harper from Scotland. I haven't trimmed the strings yet as they are still settling in. It doesn't sound very loud due to the thick soundboard, but it does have a clear tone and decent resonance. Hopefully, with time, its voice will season out. I made it out of scrap wood I had laying around in my shop; camphor laurel for the back, pillar, neck and front of the soundboard is some "pine" (probably bunya... much harder than regular pine) and inlay and spine of jarrah.

Oddly enough, there are quite few harp people in my little village of 550.
Summer harp colony, You would fit in quite nicely. As you've done a great build,
that matters very much here.
A couple of fine instruments assembled from the BIG kits with all the accessories, too.
Oldest builder might have been 20.

Very little flattery intended. There are at least 3 people building guitars here.
Several have built full-sized harps. One of the world's best French Horn builders
lives 15 miles east in the forest. I count a couple of British-trained violin luthiers as friends.
I've seen plenty of non-factory stringed instruments. Yours is good.
Love to hear it.

Thanks for all the lovely compliments, everyone! I'm still "wet behind the ears" when it comes to woodworking, and to get such positive feedback from seasoned "woodchucks" means a lot to me. It's very encouraging. The harp is settling in well and doesn't require as much tuning anymore. Sounds good! I'll try and find some time to record a clip of it and post it to my YouTube account. Will keep you posted.
