Default QLD Maple and Jarrah Mallet

I made this joiners mallet as a Xmas present for my Mums partner. This is the first mallet that I'd ever attempted and it turned out better than I expected.

The woods were chosen primarily for their appearance as the recipient isn't a wood worker and there was a very high likelihood that this would be an ornamental piece. As the mallet now lives on his bookcase with other collectables I think I made the right choice.

I'd jump at the chance to use that for wood carving. Maybe some sort of replaceable faces on the mallet.
A lot of the time, I need to do "tap-tap-tap," which gives me more control than a hand push.
It's always a pleasure to work with good-looking tools.

    Thanks mate

The square section just under the head make the mallet very easy to control when you grip up there. The edges of the square handle section are (meant to be) parallel with the sides of the head as well to help guide by feel.

I do plan to make more mallets in the future because I really enjoyed making this on and I love the idea of replaceable faces. Damn it, now I'm going to be playing in sketchup to make this work lol
