how do you keep the borers out pjt?
It depends.... if the borers are only attacking the sapwood which I am gonna cut off anyway, I let em go for it but keep an eye on em and cut out any borers later.
They seem to be able to zero on in fresh cut green mango, especially during summer so if I have cut some at this time I keep it where I can keep a close eye on them and squish em as I see em, if I have cut too much that has to be stacked and cant be eyed I'll spray with something, I don't spray willy nilly, some of the guys use boron which seems to be enviro freindly

The raintree has a few in the sapwood here and there but in general it seems to be going good as far as getting chewed up taking the bark off is usually a big help

    lovely work Rob1949....very impressive!
there are some huge trees in and around Cairns...apparently even bigger in Townsville...
i believe they are frowned on a bit by the council as they are not native....there are a few felled ones not too far from me, quite a way up a hill...now how can i borrow a helicopter and get them back to mine???

Can it be milled where it lays?
Cut slabs of it, then carry/move/lift the slabs downhill/uphill and get it home that way, a bit easier than trying to get the whole log home....

no...its in a national park area and there are lots of people about and i think the rangers would frown on anything like that...plus i dont have access to a portable mill...
shame though...lots of lovely timber that will rot away!

I was led to believe that if the tree was down and suitable permits obtained u were allowed to cut timber in National parks, it could well be completely different now.
There was talk of going up north to help a fellow forumite with cutting during the cooler months, He has a Lucas, I have a chainsaw mill....so if u wanted to pursue it, some slabs could be a possibility. Can u ask the EPA or whoever looks after the park?

sounds like a possible plan.... i can ask about... its a shame as the entire tree has been felled and is just lying there...

would be hard work but could be some lovely timber up for grabs...let me see what i can do...i also have access to two 1 metre diameter, 4 meter long black wattle logs not far from here...if you have the gear and i have the enthusiasm then maybe we can work something out! shame to give it all to the borers.....
