    Default More recycled piano work

    Hello!
As you can imagine from previous posts I collect a lot of stuff to recycle, and I was starting to get buried in parts from a couple of pianos!
Its OK to think you can find a use for the various veneered panels, mouldings and turned pieces- those more obviously attractive parts, but what about the more mundane pieces from framework and the bits on the inside?? There is some lovely stuff to be found underneath, if only for stable and well seasoned pine/spruce/oregon, and I have made a few boxes and even kid's block sets from this.
I went at it for a while earlier this year putting together a number of three dimensional collages, more like compositions than anything functional. I framed the pieces in resawn strips from the main frame at the rear, which is spruce I believe, and seem to be made up from laminated sections with a black stain. The frames are simply mitre jointed boxes with the collage section forming the back.
In all this series of works (and there are more than 30 now) I have purposely left the pieces in the condition I found them. This includes damage and wear from use, marks from demolition, makers marks, and holes & joins from assembly. I love the patina and story left behind by such things, but I know some people don't, and consider it junk! So be it!!
Anyway, I have exhibited these a couple of times, and sold a number too. Here a couple of the earlier ones. They all have individual titles, but the series goes under the name of "Piano Improvisations".

    Cheers
    Andy Mac
