Default Red gum burl cheeseboard with blacksmithed lizard

    Hi everyone

At Biting Midge's get together a couple of weeks back, Teejay kindly gave us one of his red gum burl slices. I ummed and aahed about what we would do with ours and came up with this idea.

I didn't really do much to it, just a hell of a go over with the belt sander to a fine grade and then a drenching with Ecowood oil woodwipe (100% organic for food surfaces). The addition of the lizard was so that it had a handle! I didn't do the blacksmithing, it was hand forged by Jayn Hobba ("the blacksmith's daughter" - Stanthorpe). She sells her pieces at Reverse Garbage in West End.

Makes for an interesting platter to chat over! Very rustic, raw and eclectic - much like the rest of the stuff at our place. Resting on a red gum slab table we made a few years back.

    Cheers
    Dan

Cool cheeseboard, the lizard gives it some real character.

Love the Lizzard and the burl. You've given me a good idea for more gifts as I have quite a few small burl slices.

How much was the handle? I wouldn't mind getting a few.

    Cheers

The lizard handle really finishes off a nice piece of timber
