    Default Red Ironbark kitchen benchtop

I have just finished this kitchen benchtop for my in-laws. It is made from red ironbark floorboards and finished with 7 coats of Estapol Satin Polyurethane.

A big thank to AlexS for cutting some of the long boards.

Love it Scott, excellent use of one of our under appreciated timbers. (of course I'd say that it's Ironbark!)

    Stevo,

Your concern is unnecessary. Food should be prepared on a chopping board not on the benchtop.

Also a bit of polyU would not do any harm to your body anyway.

    Looks really good Scott.

I'm not sure Darren and helped contribute to the cutting out apart from keeping your inlaws out of the way.

The finish looks good too - the whole project is a credit to you.

*G* yeah and in bowls and things too. You are right but the truth is that food comes in contact with the surface one way or another so it is something to be aware of

Anyone who takes to that top with a knife should be butchered.

That came up well Scott, I trust SWMBO and little SWMBO are suitably impressed. I reckon our eucalypts are among the best timbers around.

I'll second all the above Wongo!

You've produced a brilliant preview for me. I've promised to change one of our daughters' kitchen tops to timber, and have been tossing up whether to use flooring.

    NO contest now!

Cheers, and thanks for the pics,

    P

    Looking good Wongo.

Yet another option I could try for all that T&G floorboards I got from near Lismore.

    Wongo

    Great job and finish
    Cutting definately out
    Hot pots and pans out
    No worries
Only big worry is teenage kids cause no matter how many times you tell them
They will cut & burn the surface
Food prep great for dough ,pastry , pasta, the only thing better is someone else making it for you

Then it doesn't taste as good but gives you more time in the shed
