    Default Scooter

We didn't care for the smaller two wheel scooters for children that were the rage some time ago. The grandchildren play on some fairly rough ground here so something more substantial was needed.

I can't recall which magazine I found the plans in, however, perhaps someone else will recognise the design.

The material chosen was ash and mahogany. Bending it was simple enough, it was cut about 1/4 inch thick and steamed in a piece of pipe by using a tea kettle for the steamer.

A couple were made and the kids tear around on them without fear of them having problems. They are very sturdy and safe to use.

If I was to build again I would make the front forks adjustable.

Ah good. The sooner you begin to build it, the sooner he can use it!

Yes, remove the wheels and they have the fastest Scooter-Snowboards on Blackcombe Whistler! No one can touch the kids on these machines and no one has as much fun. Plus, they can carry a pack on the back of it!

    Unhappy

My youngest son just asked for one as well. How hard is it going to be to fit it with a roll cage and airbag?

    Hi Brian,

Airbags shouldn't pose a problem, many can be found on these forums. However, getting them to fit on the scooter may prove difficult.

Several of the scooters have roll cages; you just need to get your ideas together. A trip to Whistler for you may be of some help. Perhaps starting with a large fan cage would be the way to begin.

    Good luck in your endeavours.
