    Default A shoe rack

Here's some photos of an almost complete shoe rack, just a coat of buffing oil to do. The finish is FW Floor Seal.
SWMBO asked if I could make a shoe rack for the garage for muddy riding boots etc, so I spent the last few days knocking this up. After the first day or two swmbo says "you know it's only a shoe rack, a few bits of ply was all I was thinking" shudder, shudder, "I just can't bring myself to knock out rubbish anymore" 'Ok, that's fine, just thought I'd let you know "

This piece had no plans, was just made on the fly to fit the space and fit the shoes, The little details and the proportions were just what I judged by eye to be OK.
Each shelf is made up of 3 boards jointed with a handplane. The posts are full length with M&T joints into the bottom support, each shelf station is rebated so the shelves had to be glued up around the posts as one full assembly. The glue was techniglue epoxy. The shelves float around the posts, except for a spot of glue on the front posts to keep them from moving. The base was shaped on the router table with a ply template and pattern following bit and cleaned up with a spokeshave and sraper (the router bit was 3mm too short ) . I made extensive use of scrapers because of the difficult grain in much of the timber and a Millers Falls #56 low angle block plane for the endgrain. I only used sandpaper to just take the hard corners off.

    Hope you like it.
    Cheers
    Michael

A good job Michael, I can't bring myself either and it creates alot of work but worth it.

It's very nice. There's nothing nicer than seeing people taking pride in the smallest of tasks. I think that's the true sign of a craftsman.
