    Default simple bed

Here is a simple single day bed that i made for the MIL. Just pine, with two coats of cabots gelclear. She didn't want a headboard / foot board, so i made the ends slightly higher to prevent mattress slippage. The outside boards form a facade with mitre joints and the inner boards form the frame on which the slats sit. The end slats are screwed down to the frame with the rest of them being loose and connected with two strips of hession. She was very happy with the result.

Excellent work cadeuceus. Seeing it's for your MIL are you going to make her sleep on it without a mattress.

good idea for a simple bed base. hard to tell from the pics, but is there anything to stop sideways movement of the matress?
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

there is the problem - i wanted to have the mattress surrounded by the facade to prevent any movement, but the MIL thought that as this has to serve as a sofa and bed combination, if there was wood outside the edge of the mattress, then people sitting on the matress (using the bed as a sofa) would find it uncomfortable. So she requested that the slats be flush to the height of the facade. As the sofa / bed will be against the wall on one long side, it should prevent movement in one direction, but it could wander off the other side. Time will tell, when she puts on the mattress, but the beauty of the thing is that i did what she wanted.... hee hee!!

There is nothing like velcro to stop things wondering around if needed. You can buy it by the metre. Looks like a nice simple design, and ten points to you for the effort. Day beds are great.
