Sideboard
Ever wondered what happened to some the wood (Blackwood and Myrtle)that was organised by Ozwinner from Tasmania a while back?
SWMBO liked this Thomas Moser sideboard, but the price was a tad too much (US$5990.00).
Here is my version. Frame, doors and panels are all Blackwood, the top and drawer fronts are Myrtle. Drawer sides/back, kickers/guide rails are all Tas Oak.
Mortice and Tenon joints throughout except for one 1/2 lap at intersection at drawers/doors at front. Panels are 8mm thick and float in frames. I didn't take a picture of back, but it is also panelled (4x).
Finish is to 320, Tung Oil about 5 coats, rubbed back with 600 and then finally 0000 steel wool. It has a lovely satin smooth finish. My first time with tung oil and I am sure I'll use it more and more.
Cabinet Hardware was from a local company, Click SystemsGordon

Really well made - excellent.
You should be proud of the work. Are you going to enter it in a competition or exhibition?
Send me a PM if you want details of an exhibition coming in Melbourne towards the end of the year.

Very, very nice work - I like the basic design a lot and you've obviously spent a lot of time getting it done that well
I'm not sure on the myrtle with the blackwood, and not sure about the hardware - but that's minor stuff. I like it a lot and SWMBO has already added one to the wishlistThe Australian Woodworkers Database - over 3,500 Aussie Woods listed: http://www.aussiewoods.info/

Geez, I can't believe ya could make anything that big that quick. takes me forever to get anything done round my place.
Then ya have the hide to turn out a beautiful piece of furniture. Well done Sir, I won't let SWMBO see it. My list is plenty long and playtime plenty short.Boring signature time again!

Zymurgy,Gordon beautiful job on the sideboard but I do have some reservations on the drawer fronts with the Myrtle.
By all margins you have done a great construction job with a nice finish and it should service your needs in the house for many a year to come.

Eventually, when I finish the set (yes there is a hutch to be added), the top and will be Blackwood, so together there will be this accent of Myrtle.
And, most importantly, in fact of utmost importance, SWMBO is HAPPY!Gordon

Lovely job. As others have commented, some reservations about the Myrtle but the top should solve that.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Top is done
Well, finally finished the top part. Similar construction, mortice and tenon, floating panels.
