Music Stand from my trees
Here are some pics of a music stand that I made. I made from a black walnut tree and maple tree that I cut down on my property. All the lumber was cut and milled (very inefficiently) by me and my aching back. This music stand does not even compare to the beauty Jacko posted a few days back, but I like it and suggestions are welcome. Enjoy

Here's a pic of the inside of the main adjuster and a few other left over pics.

Very nice, what finish do you have on it, really brings out the beauty of the wood.
Cheers

Thanks Wayne. The finish is nothing but Boiled Linseed Oil. It looks beautiful on walnut.

Lovely piece, Jim.
The contrasting timber, is it Maple, highlights the beauty of the Walnut. Is it your own design?

I think that's a magnificent looking stand. Well done.
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Thanks guys for the kind words. DPB the lighter wood is maple, and the design came from looks at many looks at other music stands and my imagination. The vertical adjuster is kind of cool because I used a door hinge mortices inside with a small piece of wood to press against the riser. What I like best is that I saw the trees, cut them down, let them season and then built stuff out of them. It doesn't get cooler than that.

I like it, . . a lot.

Well thought-out adjustment mechanisms, and the timber of the top part looks really nice. The feet look a bit flimsy, and might look better darkened to match the rest of the piece.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.
