Suspension Bridge for Spoilt Kitten
I am a dog man but it has been 18 months since our last dog passed away (we have had 3 dogs & 1 cat (wife's) during our 30 year marriage) so I asked my wife if she would like to get herself another cat.
She picked one up from the RSPCA within weeks but it is a Bengal cross....this means that no flat surface is high enough for this kitten...top of bookshelves, counter tops...it would rather walk across my office benches and behind the computers than walk across the clear open floor.
So I put my workshop to use and created a Suspension Bridge Walkway which suspends from the ceiling .....Wife is very happy......I only had to visit the ceiling crawl space once to locate the beams (at 55 yo, the ceiling space is not an environment I enjoy) and used my CAD Drafting program to position the equipment under the beams.
I enjoyed the process.....

Lyle,
In the 1st pic you'll see a shelf under the wall clock. It used to hold books at my wife's end of the office. She cleared off the books and I glued carpet to it.
The cat leaps from the floor ..up 900 to the counter top...onto a box...up another 900 to the shelf ...then a small leap onto the LHS landing board of the bridge.
Until I create something on the RHS, she either returns the same way or she once descended from the landing board down a 1200 drop onto office benchtop

Cracker Skot!
As a dog man, tell me you're never tempted to give the suspension bridge a bit of "high wind" effect.

If I get fed up with the cat....a couple of inconspicuous cuts of the support rope with the Stanley knife
Note to self: Have Video camera ready.....might win $500 if Funniest Home Videos comes back on air.

Still Slave to the Cat......
This might be the last thing I make for this cat ....for a while anyway....but I am earning brownie points from the wife
I made this Hammock Seat which is a piece of leather sandwiched between 2 x "Toilet Seat" shaped bits of ply.
The leather creates a soft seat ....now I just have to mount it on the wall

Yebbut like a typical cat, she's not sitting in the bit that you spent so much time and effort making comfy.
How much time would you have saved if you just made it a solid timber disc? 3 hours? 4?

Easily 3 hours saving if solid timber

I am such a Prat
Although the cat can leap from the counter up to the Hammock Seat in one jump (approx 1.2m), ...SWMBO thought it would be good if there was a way to reduce the height that the cat had to jump...........so .......I made a step which hangs off the Hammock Seat frame which makes it easier for the cat..
