SWMBO's first project
SWAMBO has finally ventured out into the shed with me. It only took about ten years. We decided that a butchers block would be a good first project. I am really hoping that she enjoys being out there with me as much as I enjoy having her working with me.

It is always a pleasure to have the wife in the shed. I spent time with her making a couple of coat racks.

Next step might be to get her signed into here.
I'd like to read her perspective on the project.
Good for her! The block should be a pleasure to use.

Can you show us a bit more of that clamp please? that looked interesting - very strong, quite solid
Glad you got your missus into the shed - did you let her do anything?
How did she feel about being there? That's even more interestingregards,
Dengy

Hey Jill,
I'll take a couple of closeups of the clamps for you when I take them off the block.
I encouraged Chele to do what ever she wanted, but Chele said at this stage she is still a bit dicey about high speed spinning blades etc. Perfectly understandable I recon.
Anyway, I had already glued the rough boards together so we had something to go on with. We started by running them through the drum sander to even out the high & low spots, & then we proceded to set up the saw to cross cut the boards.
Chele was happy to catch & stack & as I said, not keen & this stage to come around to the business end of the saw. Then I showed her why we flip every second strip & we set up the clamps together, & laid out the old Glad Bake.
Chele was right in on the glue up & clamp up & then we had to set that aside.
I wasn't over happy with the setup on my Drum Sander, so we spent about an hour playing with that, & that was about it for the first day. Just a couple of hours.
Next week will be interesting for her when the block goes from rough saw cuts to a smooth & shiny finish.
Chele seemed to enjoy our productive time together in the shed, but was a bit boared with setting up the drum sander... can't say I blame her, but it had to be done.
