    Good work Zed.

I always like to see the recycled timber used - I guess if it wasn't used it wouldn't be recycled!

She should be very pleased with it. But won't linseed oil give a rather sticky finish? I remember cricket bats finished with linseed oil.

Looks real good Zedman. Guess you have to keep on side with a lady who buys you a week at Sturt. Hope she likes it.

    I'd like to know too!

Also... and please don't think I'm comparing your table to my bench...but how soft is the top really??

It's just that I have all this old pergola you see...

    Nice one Zeddy

    Cheers,

    Good work, Zedman. Well done!

I like the colour and grain of oregon. It'll improve with age, too, as the effect of light gradually changes and warms up the colour of the wood.

    Nice job.

    All these compliments!!!!!!!

    1) The muffins are still in the box (although I have some eggs and will make some this weekend if you want to come round and get one).
    2) Linseed oil is sticky but only until it dries - leave it out in the sun for a week or so then a quick light rub down with turps and it dries up nicely - you can even wax it then... whcih I have never actually done...
    3) I am hereby out of the oregon business, I am looking forward to using some nice aussie hardwood. I had a mess of oregon I'd saved from sites and the the local recycler dump - which I have now thankfully run out of execpt for one length of 4x2! In fact I couldnt get the top flat enough with my recycled timber and ended up going to north shore timber to get some new oregon planking for its squareness and flatness (So I lie its not all recycled after all!!) the original top which I dowelled together from ripped 4x2 is actually the table top for my dust extractor system - no sense wasting it !! - the photo is in SilentC's thread "Mediocrity" if your interested...
    4) Oregon is easy to work except it is splintery - I wouldnt use it on a woodworking bench but for a bedroom table its fine.
    5) oregon grain is lovely innit ? I especially like the close end grain on a routed edge very pretty.
    6) Im only allowed to take hand tools to my week at sturt so i find in my lax moments thinking about what to take....

BTW - I grabbed 2 of the GMC tool bags from Bunnies for $10 each - you;ve probably seen the ads. they are a good buy its good tough woven ripstop nylon and well stitched - get one or 2 yourself... lots a pockets and heaps of capacity....

    Cheers
    Zed
