    Smile WIP new computer case

This is my 1st project that I have actually posted anywhere on the net so be gentle.

I did have all my computer gear inside a full tower, but man was that thing annoying and noisy on quiet nights with no tv blaring.

I finally learned sketchup for my plans, which by the way is an excellent program once you understand how it works.

Haven't finished it yet, but have made my doors for the case but haven't completed sanding them but hopefully will tomorrow.

This case has been a great learning curve for me and have used numerous techniques on it and made plenty of mistakes, some i could rectify, some i couldn't. Any case enough prattling on, here's the pictures so far.

Never though of a wooden computer case since the days of make your own. Why will it be quieter than your tower?

It will be a good conversation piece and certainly one of a kind. looks like it will turn out pretty good.

Congratulations for taking the bull by the horns and having a go. Being a bit of a computer nerd myself, I have thought of actually doing the same thing but never got around to it. Like Pusser said, It's a talking point.

    WOW!

That looks beautiful, you have put some thinking into that layout, is there any chance of seeing the sketchup file?

Please post more pics when you get the componets installed.

    Smile Update

I'm on my 2nd computer which is not as fast as the computer I pulled apart, of which sketchup is installed on, I tried using sketchup on the smaller pc but it was painfully slow, so alas I only have the sketchup file but not sure which one it is but will post it in any case. (Edited, can't post the sketchup file as its 640 Kb and 290 Kb zipped).

An interesting point I didn't mentioned last time, is that this computer will also be water cooled just like the donor pc.

Have attached pictures of the twin radiators (off ebay for $15 each i think) and the fans that cool them, which will be moved slightly to align up with the motherboard holes properly.

I originally bought three of them to put on my car, but i fitted one each to the power steering and the transmission, the hoses were bulging so the throughput was not great, plus it blew the bum out of my steering rack just before last christmas trip. So instead of throwing something out that I could possibly use in the future, wal-la (sp?) instant pc radiators.

Don't think they are desert coolers, as they only measure 172 x 450 mm. The old pc had a transmission cooler on it, which sits on my shelf now.

Wow, you ride Harleys, build computers, and do woodwork. Is there any thing you don't do????? Nice looking case, I guess you still call it that?
In woodworking there is no scrap, only firewood.
