Timbeer Veneer Lampshade
Som epictures of a lampshade made from timber veneer that I made over Christmas. The pattern came from a recent Fine Woodworking magazine.
The timber used was Ash veneer and ply, finished with a spray estapol.

Groovy. Is the veneer simply glued to the supporting frame? Damien.

Looks like it. In the second picture you can see the little wedges being used to hold it in place against the main frame.

First I cut the veneer to strips, then length, and glued them to the appropriate size loops, which were then glued to the frame. I also covered any of the frame you could see in veneer too.

That's beautiful, I hope you're pleased.
Being wood, any recommendations for maximum lamp bulb size?

I don't have an incandescent bulb in it, but one of the compact flourescents, which do not radiate anywhere near the level of heat.
The old lampshade was material, and i did check the heat around that prior to using the timber shade, and there was minimal radiated heat. Additionally what you may not pick up from the photos is the size - the diamater is around 20 inches at its widest, so the timber is not to close to the source of heat anyway.
