Default Timber & other things rack

Well, finally finished lining the shed and decided I needed to get all the bits of timber off the floor. I looked at lots of different designs for the rack, in the end I just bought 75 X 100 mm hardwood fence posts for $14 a 3mtr length.

After dressing them out the finished size was 69 X 90 mm. I drilled 27mm holes on 300mm centres with a 4º upward pitch just to stop stuff from sliding off the pipe arms. The pipe is ¾" gal pipe which goes right through the hardwood upright, the exposed arm length is 450mm (higher arms) and 185mm (lower arms).
I now seem to have HEAPS of room in the shed

    Cheers

    Majorpanic,

if that is a sky light in the photo, does it cause any problems to the timber in your wonderful rack?

I just thought the sunlight might cause some uneven drying or perhaps the light might darken parts of the timber.

Looks like a pretty good solution to storing your timber.

    Hey Major,

I like the solution to the racking. I had not thought about using 3/4 pipe as the arms. If you don't mind may have to nick that idea

Not sure about the placement of your 20L solvent drums though. You have two ignition sources in very close proximity - the power point upper right and the buzzer ...

Hmmm - I think I'm becoming a safety nazi

The skylight doesn't seem to cause any problems with drying the timber but I have noticed some timber taking on a sun tan. Then again I usually have all 3 rollerdoors open when I'm in the workshop and it faces west

I had a timber rack like that which was based on timber rack in the Time Life woodworking series book on Workshops. Unfortunately the rack had to go in the workshop reorganisation to make room for the jointer.

To drill the angled holes needed I used the drill press with the table angled to the correct angle.

    G'day

That degreaseing gun is a pain in the ****, always falling over. You can only put it on a ledge when it's got an air line attached.... (reminds self to look into new washer-upper nug)

    Looking good major!
BTW, I'm going to make a couple New Guinea rosewood pens shortly. I'll send one your way when ready
Churned out the first pen on the lathe today (Lace Sheoak). Bit rough... haven't turned for a while now.
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?
