    Default Toy Box

In December I made a toybox for a friends grand daughter. It went over so well that she wanted another one for her other grand daughter. Well before I send it to a new home I thought I take a picture to remeber it. The box is birch ply and the top is Mahogany. The coners are mitered with black walnut splines and is finished with a wipe on poly. The last box I cut the splines by hand. This time I made a jig to cut the slots for the splines with my circular saw. It went much faster than the other one. It also rests on castors for pushing it about.

It looks even better than your first box! I think it's the smaller-thinner splines that do it for me and the castors are a great idea too.

Great looking box. As a fan of splined mitres, I'd be interested to see the jig you used.

Very nice, I like the effect of the splines. How heavy is it? Could do with something similar for my daughter but she's no weightlifter! Come to think of it, if she can't lift the box, maybe the toys will stay in her room for once.

    Good stuff 9Fingers!

As Scott says, almost too good for toys - and small ankle biters

Very nice, agree with ruffly in that I like this one a little more than your first one.

Excellent work.To repeat those above, the splines really set it off.

Great looking box 9'. I like the way you've used the splines - very effective. Yet another thing for my 'have a go at that one day' list.

Its not to heavy. I'd be suprised if was more than 15-20 pounds ( not sure how much that is in metric). I'll give the size a try in metric. Its 42 cm tall 42 cm wide and 75 cm long. My 18 month old was able to push it around easy enough and even climb into it without knocking it over. He was quite upset this morning when I hauled it out of the house. Guess I'll me making another one.

My almost 2 year old likes doing the same with the 120l plastic tub that I have for his toys.

Beautiful job, not surprised they've gone over so well. The contrasting timber in trim and splines looks great!

Lovely tool box. Giving me some ideas for my mum's knitting box.
