Thanks Seb.
It has been good to get away from the instruments for a bit and work on some cabinet making.
And nice to work with Qld maple, Burbinga, Blackwood and silky oak instead of floorboards.
I have a Tasmanian myrtle cabinet that has been waiting to be finished for way too long. I am looking forward to playing with the myrtle.
I dropped in to for a quick look at the wood work shops at Bathurst and Katoomba a few days ago. You have some nice work on display up your way.
Mal gave me a few more Qld ample boards and I would like to make one of those cuvy sideboards like the ones George Gavaric makes. I will need to find some maple veneer for the curved sections.
CheersScally

Thanks Cisco. It is very rewarding working with nice pieces of timber.
A few years ago I visited a friend in Lynchburg, VA, and he gave me a couple of pieces of walnut and maple. I made the little boxes in my avatar from them.
He had retired from an engineering job and moved to a small farm with plenty of trees. He was having a great time salvaging trees from his farm and neighbours farms and turning them into boards.Scally

Hi Scally, wondered how I had missed this and then realised I was in Europe most of Jan. What a great piece, beautiful timber and fantastic workmanship, will be waiting for your George Gs.

I am not sure about all those curves and how to fit them together so the Gavaric might be a while coming.
I have been advised that there are a couple of other projects that I need to finish before I start any more!!Scally

Small world. I have not yet quite retired from an engineering job, but I moved to a farm a few hours from Lynchburg, VA. We have plenty of trees as well, but they are all quite healthy so no plans to bring them down just yet. Black walnut, maple, cherry, holly, oak, etc... Have a herd of black Angus cattle, horses, a donkey, pigs, and a small herd of dairy goats that we milk and make cheese from their milk. Better life than living in the subdivisions, you know? Love your workmanship and if you ever find yourself in Virginia again please feel free to look me up.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

If your name is Brand and your property is the Quarters you're getting younger!!
I know a good few people along Parkway between DC and Dollywood and have been back several times and certainly will be back again.
There is a brass Dogwood flower paperweight still on my desk.
Brand would salvage fallen trees from his neighbours and saw them up. May you could do the same!
See you on my next visit.
CheersScally
