New TV Stand
Hi everyone,
This is my new TV stand and shelveter for forgotten curios.
It replaces a substandard unit made of Jarrah, Tassie Myrtle and Rock Maple.
It is Jarrah and Brushbox (read Ironbark on training wheels).
The Jarrah was oiled with Feast and Watson Scandinavian oil and the Brushbox with their Chinawood oil. The first two photos show the figure in the two timbers, the third and fourth show the entire unit.
It has been rubbed with EEE Ultrashine and now needs waxing.
Regards,
Rob

Nice looking table there, good timbers used. Can I ask the reason for needing to use two different oils?
Also did you make the speakers? the timber seems to matchBrett

Hi all,
Thaanks for the comments.
TeeJay,
All joints are dominoed.
End Rails to legs 8x50mm
Long rails to legs 10x50mm
all other joints are 6x40mm.
I must say that for the long rails I was very tempted to use 12x50 Mortise and tenon joints. I still like doing these occasionally especially if I want the added strengh of a 12mm wide tenon, cut to the depth I like.
Oges,
There was no real reason to use two oils other than I wanted to try them out. The Scandinavian oil gives a deeper colour to the timber after burnishing and waxes to a high shine. The China Wood oil gives a matt finish after burnishing and does not give the high shine with Trad wax, but more a soft lustre. As it turns out it works well with the Brushbox, but for such a strong "in your face " timber like Jarrah, I still like the shine that burnished Scandinavian oil followed by Trad wax allows.
The speakers are Jensn 2 ways in what is US Cherry veneered MDF. The colouring was just a happy coincidence.
Incidentally, the 65mm square Jarrah was sold to me as Utility grade. Cool Huh!
Regards
Rob
