Default Value Adding - Worth it?

I picked up a couple of PEWTER picture frames and decided to personalize them for a new Grandmother who lives in Far North Queensland by mounting them in a Australian Red Cedar frame.

I call this value adding...I would be interested in what others think. Is it worth it? has it added anything or not?

    Cheers,
    Chipman

    Hi Chipman,

Nice job, I think they look much better than just plain pewter, but hey, this is a woodwork forum!

I suppose if you were selling them you could ask more for them, but would you get more for them? Some people would no doubt prefer the plain pewter.

Anyway, I hope granny likes 'em.

I reckon you know you've made a good job of these. If Gran likes them is another question - and again you know her better!
As a gift, and with photographs insitu, I believe she will love them.

Thanks for the comments.... I only do gifts...never even tried to sell anything but from what I have seen with some of my stuff used as fund raising, most people are not willing to even pay even what the materials cost! Anyway while I can afford it, I get more reward from seeing someone happy with what I have done for them...I think most appreciate it more when they know it was specifically made for them.

Once I retire, I will have to learn to sell some stuff or no more hobby!

    Cheers,
    Chipman

    Default value

Gday Chipmaan. I think they look great. I also think you have increased their value. I don't think you can judge the selling price from fetes etc. People who go to fund raisers know they are donating and will go way over the value or keep the pocket zipped. Markets give you a better idea of pricing or try consignment at second hand stored and see how they go.I give you this advise for your retirement and hope you never need to use it.billym

I like them, Chips. Well done.

Turns a cold frame into a warm, elegant work of art.

    Great job.

I don't know if it would add value in terms of $$$ but I know which ones I would prefer. Great idea
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

That is basically what I mean... it is my attempt to change something ordinary into something a bit more special as a gift.

I have seen Tea Lady combines mediums too... her pottery with wooden saucers or handles. It can and does work.

    Cheers,

Chipman, I am not a pewter admirer so the addition of the cedar adds great warmth, in my opinion.

If you had fun doing this. Then yes it was worth it.

    That's my 2 cents.

I think they look fantastic and you couldn't have chosen a better timber. I like them a lot.
