Plan the build / Build the plan. Verandah steps & Trim
Im going to have to leave the bench some for this one mates. As i have said before, i find it helpful to draw a plan for every project. So i would like to share with you what im up to next. The old steps were somewhat wobbly and set at 200mm. a little steep for this old chippy. And i wanted to add a little decorative trim to the verandah before we apply a new coat of paint to the house. So...here we go. First of all ill share what i have of the demo pictures so far.

I have striped a good deal of ironbark handrail which i will use to make a bit of window trim in this project. As you can see i have begun by installing the paneling. Now we need some new steps.

Nice plan.
They only thing that would concern me is the 100mm riser. I have used stairs that have been similar and they are very hard to walk up and down. I appreciate that your health may not allow you to easily negotiate a steeper stair seeing as you are changing from the steeper version.
I would be inclined to loose one stair tread and make the rise 125, and that would make it closer to standard, but still a shallower angle of rise for you to negotiate.

Hiya Specialist. I might tend to agree with you were the treads not 300mm wide. At any rate a ramp was suggested for me. But was very long and costly. I will easily be able to manage this raise. Also if things should come to a wheelchair it will be easy to drag me up one step at a time. That is the purpose of the steps being 300mm wide. Thank you very much for your interest and input. I should tell you that i am a cancer patient for 5 years now. Only God knows what may come next for me. It is by his grace that i am still here to enjoy my work. I have always had a positive attitude regarding my illness. God willing, i will always find a way to keep working my skill. again, thank you for your valued comments.

Charlee, Had a mate that lost both legs in a car accident and was in a wheel chair. He had a similar situation as your verandah. What we did was put in a ramp and he used a rope, tied to the top through a snatch block and then run down and hung over the hand rail. He just pulled himself up, no trouble at all. He also uses the rope to slow his trip down.
Mate, when you stop and think about it, a ramp would only be about one extra tread to what you already have in material for the stairs. Wheelchairing up stairs is not much fun.
Just a thought and all the best.
