Default Weekend project - Plant table

I managed to make pretty good time on this one, considering what a beast 8/4 Maple is to work with, and the fact that NOTHING on this table was straight. Even the legs were curved, and triangles to boot!

Anyways, I learned some new things on this one, feel free to ask questions.

I learned that bandsaws, routers, and pocket screws are my friends.

I also learned that putting a 25* bevel on a curved leg to make a triangular leg using a table saw is very dangerous, and makes me very nervous.

Heck - that would make me nervous too! Did you find another way to make the 25* bevel safely?

    cheers

No. Sometimes when confronted with the dilemma of safety vs. buying a routerbit that might not exist when no carbide stores are open for 2 more days, getting the job done wins. The trick here was to shut the power to the saw off before the cut was complete. That way I at least still had some flat surface on the table saw bed. If I had pushed it all the way through, I think things could have gone wonky real quick.

So how did you form the top? Great looking peice by the way. I take it that you reside in the US of A? 8/4 is not dimensioning used in Aus, and maple, by golly!

    Bat

If you cut the same angle on a bit of scrap stock as long or a little longer than the legs After you cut one side of the leg turn stock over and using double sided tape stick the two cut faces together and cut second side of the legs
    Not so scary

Excellent suggestion. I will keep that in mind for next time.

The top was formed by making a positive and a negative jig. I bandsawed the pieces close, and then flush trimmed them with a top bearing flush trim router.

Nice work Bat. You either work much faster than me (not hard) or get more hours in your shop of a weekend than me. I think that I would have taken a little longer.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

That's a really nice table Bat. Excellent fit between the centre and outsite pieces of the top. I like the design, especially the shape of the legs.
