WIP a couple of rustic table bases
The first pic is the redgum root I picked up recently.
I have roughly cleaned it up with 16 grit.
This lends itself to a coffee table,
The 2nd pic is a messmate stringybark root that I have also cleaned up with 16 grit. I am thinking of this becoming a dining table.
Both tops will be laminated from boards but have irregular edge shape,
Probably use spotted gum for tops though I have a bit of redgum available for tops if needs be.
Other suggestions welcomed.
Suggestions about chair style to suit the stringybark table invited.

Hey, Bob;
That red gum root is just plain wierd; it reminds me of that pic of the camel spiders that got around during the early stages of the latest Gulf war.
The messmate root is cute, though, the way you've sanded it makes it look almost artificial (not suggesting that that you've knocked up a tree root out of papier-mache, or anything). When you say 16 grit, are you talking ROS, or what?
Cheers,
Rus.
P.S. For chairs I'd go a rustic hybrid- natural legs and back slats/rails, with dressed seat; I've got a pic I knocked off somewhere, I'll get back to you...The perfect is the enemy of the good.

I think the redgum root was cut off a stump years ago so they could make a table out of the stump itself. I got the offcut.
16 grit on a 7" panel beaters sander.
Pic of the chairs may provide the inspiration I'm looking for.

Not real mad on windsor chairs but Stuart Houghton's work is very nice!

Yeah, it's cool, hey...but if copyright issues arise, it was the other Rusty, not me. You know, the boat.
Have a good one,
Rusty.
P.S. Should I have changed the file names, or was it that obvious anyway??The perfect is the enemy of the good.

The photo caption (built into the image) is the key
I don't see anything wrong with keeping copies of things of personal interest purely for study purposes.
