    Thanks fellas

Gro, this job really has me thinking about what finish. I think I'll stick with the danish oil with a wax on top. I'd like to try shellac but I'm worried about all the fiddly bits on this cabinet. And I've never tried shellac before.

Did you have any issues with putting the slats into the holes?

No problems there Christos. Each one was a nice push fit. I was sure I would need to touch up the ends with a block plane or a bit of sanding but in the end they just pushed in about 10mm by hand, and then lightly tapped down another 10mm with a hammer for a total depth of 20mm.

I applied glue to the inside of the hole only, to avoid squeeze out.

Busy time but managed to get the shelf done. Floating panel is glued at the front only with a couple of mm at rear for movement.

Fixed in place with dowels through slats. Oiled shelf and insides of cabinet around shelf before installation to avoid any missed spots.

Sorry in a bit of a rush, Merry Christmas

    Looking great mate

I'm keen to make a Krenov style cabinet next year. Yours reminds me of this style of cabinet.

Thanks Gro' any comparisons to Krenov are more than welcome

I went over to Trend Timbers the other day and bought this board to make the top. I love that place, talk about a kid in a candy store!

I like the slash grain but I am a bit worried aout instability and cupping. I've included a photo of the end grain to show the rings. I've had it in the shed for about a week and we've had some rain as well as hot weather and the board so far has stayed flat.

The board is 200mm wide and the top is going to be 370mm so I could make the top from two pieces. I'm thinking I'll see how it goes when I thickness it, I can always cut the board down the middle if necessary.
