    Default Heirloom Baby Cradles

I built these two cradles for our children. One was built in 2006 for our son then I built a second when we had twins in "08" The plan originates from a December 1986 issue of Woodsmith magazine. I altered the plan to accommodate a standard 18"x36" cradlemattress. I don’t have a lathe so I made slats for the sides instead of spindles. The knobs where shaped using a jig at the router table and final turning at the drill press. The first features q-sawn white oak and purpleheart and the second is made from maple and walnut. The cradles knock down and can be easily boxed and stored for future generations.

    Dewayne,

Similar to your change table - very nice work.

I am not a cradle fan but the maple and walnut looks devine - sensational timber and very well presented.

    Thanks for posting.
    Cheers

Gorgeous! Totally agree that they are heirlooms.

They both look splendid - I think Purpleheart is incredible stuff and looks amazing in furniture. Must have cost you a fortune to buy enough for the ends.

The oak even though it is the same design as the maple looks more rustic - I think that's just the way oak is, it has a way of disguising clean lines and making everything look thicker and rustic.
