WIP finally started the kitchen
Finally after living with the world's ugliest kitchen for 4.5 years I've made a start on replacing it. Timeline:
4.5 years ago move into house
3.5 years ago finish shed (so I have somewhere to build the kitchen)
3 years ago buy plywood
2.5 years ago take timber out of drying rack and dress
2 weekends ago cut and edge board
last weekend assemble carcasses
last week (between showers) spray lacquer
Pic 1: as it was on friday arvo, just before I started emptying it out
Pic 2: Saturday evening, spent till lunchtime emptying everything out, built plenty of kitchens but never had to empty one out before, didn't realise how time consuming it is. It took me a while to remove the cabinets as I was trying to save them for reuse our rural fire brigade shed, my normal M.O is to have at them with a sledge hammer, usually only takes an hour to smash everything and get it out the door.
Pic 3:Sunday night. all the services roughed in, I had to relocate the plumbing and chase it into the blockwork, got all the new power point wiring in place and relocated one existing point, ran 3/8" copper for the gas cooktop and two gas lights (for power outages, not uncommon here) plus ran 1/2" to where the fridge will be, just in case we get one with built in water dispenser.
Won't be too much progress tomorrow as I have to head to town to pick up my custom stainless benchtops . I should get the kickers in and maybe a couple of carcasses. Unfortunately it's probably going to stall after I get it operational, but before I make and fit the doors and all the panels and trims as I've got a bit of work to knock out before Christmas.

Mick,
Congratulations. It's great to see someone else who understands that you don't have to knock out a project in a few days to achieve satisfaction!
We're here for a good time not a long time!
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished results, now has anyone seen the blast gates for my dusty? I'm sure I left them round here somewhere.....
Cheers,
P

Mick I hope it doesn't take as long as mine. My kitchen has become a perpetual WIP, much to my wife annoyance.
Good luck with yours.

Wwp
Well the WIP turned into a WWP (work without progress) for a few days there. Had to take care of other stuff, plus had some delays with materials. The benchtops weren't ready untill yesterday and collecting them was an intersting exercise . The large "L" shaped piece is 2.6 x 2.2, my ute tray is 2.4 x 1.8. The formula for rear load overhang is 60% of wheelbase mesured from centre of rear axle = maximum length of load to rear of vehicle. No problems there as this allows me to have a 3M load on my tray. went down to the local police station to enquire about side overhang and was initially told it was verboten. Some prodding revealed that I could carry a load up to 2.5 M wide without an escort but an overhang of over 150mm requires a flashing orange beacon on the vehicle. I've got one of those so I manged to get the thing home without having to entrust it to some roughnut with a truck.
When I got home the tape measure revealed that I'd gotten more than I'd paid for, about 20mm more in length. I had to drag the corner pantry shelving unit out onto the back verandah and partially dismantle it, trim 20mm off and put it back together (2 hours ). I then doscovered that the sink bowls were larger than planned . So this morning I dragged the corner cupboard out, partially dismantled it and reassembled. The undersink cupboard was too narrow for the now oversize bowls so I had to dismantle it and cut a new bottom, back and rail. As this unit is in ply I had to sand and lacquer it also. Got it all into place this afternoon, but the fine tuning/levelling is yet to be done"If you need a machine today and don't buy it,
tomorrow you will have paid for it and not have it."

A bit of progress
Actually made some progress this weekend. Oven is hooked up and the microwave is plugged in so some cooking is possible again. Sink drains are hooked up as is the cold water (need to get an extension hose for the hot). I've yet to cut a hole in the stainless top for the gas cooktop, which I'm not looking forward to. I need to get a few more drawer runners, but it's ready to start filling up. Living on reheated stuff out of the freezer was wearing a bit thin.

Benchtops look awesome!
Which of the sample colours did you end up choosing?
You must be a popular bloke at home at the moment!
Cheers

Justine,
colour for splashbacks has been narrowed down to a choice of three. I need to polish a bit of the timber I'll be using for the doors and panels to see what looks best with it. I don't know about being popular, what's that saying ? "I'm always in the s**t, it's just the depth that varies" . The rest of the lounge/dining area is a total shambles because of the work and there's a fine layer of dust on everything and SWMBO can't find things and it's all taking too long. Hopefully by the end of the week all the drawers will be in place and everything put in its place. I'll be able to get the place to stop looking like a crime scene then . Wasn't able to do any work on it today (besides putting things away while I was having lunch and dinner) as I had work to catch up on. Good thing I'm a patient man.

Yep mate looking good and inspriring. I want to rebuild the kitchen at home and if I show the good wife what you've done, she may let me have a go at it.
