    Default wishing well

    Hey guys,
I'm a new member and have enjoyed the forum for a long time before joining. Just thought i would post some pics of my wishing well which i just finished and made for my upcoming wedding.
I had a look around and the missus wanted to pay $100 to hire a dodgy piece of scrap pine for the day . I propmtly picked my jaw up off the ground and told her i would make something special for our day! This is the first major project i have done since high school, as i have recently gathered all of my dads woodworking equipment as my folks had to dowsize houses ( much to my delight). I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and in the end, i and am a damn site happier than i would have been hiring one! I would love any feedback you are willing to give!

I designed it myself and decided to only use marri and jarrah as i thought this would provide a good contrast. The front and back pieces are curley jarrah and the rest is normal. It was a good little project to get back into this fantastic obsession.... i forgot how much i missed the smell of fresh cut wood!
    cheers guys

    Hi Cossi

Totally agree with you. $100 for hiring a wishing well is, well, a luxury, especially when it's just pine etc.

I too, made my own wishing well, though I used mdf painted gold.

    Yours, however, is beautiful.

So, do you think you could get $150 hire a day for yours ?

    cheers

    cheers guys,
my fiance has already sparked to that idea wendy, but i don't think i trust people considering the effort which went into it! It is unbeleivable what they are charging hey. it must cost them $20 for wood and they hire them out for $100 - $150 a day!
I always wanted it to be special so i might lend it out ot some close mates who are getting married soon. but i think we might display it somewhere, it will prob make for a good saving jar...... considering that we are now building and broke
    cheers for the comments

i have been to about 5 weddings in the last year and all of them have had wishing wells. I guess it is due to the change of culture these days as it is rare for people to not have lived together before they get married. Thus we already have everything we need, so if the guests would like to partisipate, they put a money donation into the well, thus allowing for the total money to be spent on bigger gifts than multiple tosters and blenders (which we already have) such as new couches ect.... it would be nice to get that much but somehow i don't think so.... a supprise would always be nice but

Ahh Memories, sweet wedding memories I remember how wonderful it was to be able to buy a few things we really needed with the gifts in the Wishing Well.

Being able to perhaps use the Well for your friends' weddings is a fantastic idea!! And an even better idea to use it as a coin box for yourselves as well.

    cheers

    Steve,
I guess it must be age but I have never seen a wishing well at a wedding and have no idea as to it's function. That aside your's is well done. Like you say why pay $100 to hire a pine one.

    Regards
    John
