    Default WO blanket chest

Havn't been on for a while. Been lurking, but not posting. I just finished a white oak blanket chest. Drawer box is lined with cedar, main box lined with african walnut (Lavoa). Joinery is mitred apron and drawer carcass, dovetailed main box. Finish is shellac sealer, danish oil and wax.

    Thanks for looking.

That's one of the nicest I've seen. Well done.

    Hi Ken,

Very nice blanket box - beautifully made!

Did you use a jig for the DTs - or hand-cut them?

The Oak looks nice too - and Cedar inside - smells good eh?

    Cheers!

Thanks for the good words everyone.
Steve, the DTs are cut with a leigh D1600. I wish they were hand cut, but I'm not at that level yet.

Hi Ken, would it be rude to ask for some dimensions? I like the proportions.

    Not rude at alll Goodwoody.

    The overall dimensions are 21 1/2 " high by 43 1/2" wide by 17 1/2" deep....

Or 545 mm x 1105 mm x 445 mm if I did my math correctly. Sorry, Im metric illiterate.

The top box is 11 1/2" deep.

The next one will be a little longer. It will be for my son. It will have a false bottom for storage of his shotgun and rifle. That one will NOT have cedar in it.

Thanks for all the good words guys.

Beautiful box, Ken. A good looking execution of a classic design.

Is it just the photos, or is something weird going on with the left hand dovetails at the front...I can't see the tails (only the pins)?

Thanks Zen. nothing weird going on, the photo just did not pick up the tails. from the front, they stand out quite nicely.

    Thumbs up

Great looking box, very nice. The photos had me confused with the tails not showing in some shots also. A greenie from me.

    Default Beautiful job Ken, congratulations

    Ken,

    Well done!

I was admiring the photos just as the bride walked in (a bit like being caught by your mum reading Penthouse!!). She was even more impressed that I, so I expect we will have an equivalent being made at our house.

Did you design it your self, or did you find a plan some place?

    thanks,

    Anthony
