The rockers are made of smaller pieces so it was a lot easier to manage. Also, I had a lot more to choose from.
Al, I gave the scraper a go tonight. The result was outstanding. Why didn’t I think about that before? So there will be no sander, no Falcon plane but only the faithful cabinet scraper.Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com

Why not Scott? Just curious.
I have mine to use, so am happy (after the first time) using them on end grain ply and 'poxy. The blades get blunt and the sole isn't virginally mirror shiny any more, but the planes do a great job.
Go on, you have to pull them out of the cupboard one day!
Cheers,
P

Good to see the updates on this thread showing casting resin. I am using this on recycled Blackbutt for a (much simpler) TV/video cabinet.
So far have only done a sample board on some spare timber. I found the resin easy to apply and it sanded easily after 24h curing (12h in the stupidly cold garage then 12h in the laundry which is warmer but not as warm as the house). I started with 80 grit paper on a ROS and then 120-180-250 grit and rubbed Danish Oil in with 400 grit wet and dry. It came up beautifully!
The instructions on my resin say to do 10mm at a time and then pour the next layer when the first one is hard but not cold. My panels are 20mm thick. My plan is to lay it all out and start at one end mixing 100ml of resin initially, then when I've finished go back and refill anything that has sunk in doing smaller batches as required. I'm using brickie's oxide to colour but minimal amount so that the resin is a bit translucent up close.

Wow! Don't you take the blue leotards off when you are working?
As I said, I've used it often on epoxy (on the boats), and it sure as heck doesn't melt! Have you really used epoxy or some cheap imitation?
It should be hard enough to scratch the sole of your plane, that's what happens to me!

G'day Wongo,
Looking good mate.
I'm still on my L plates and short of getting my thumb out and getting a copy of Ernest Joyce's "Techniques of..." could you take some shots for me of how you've done the joinery of the carcass, particularly the legs?
I'm always jealous of blokes with more clamps than I've got - 4 Paul Call F clamps and 5 pipe clamps. If anyone feels a bit of sympathy for me I'll take any donations.

Doing well Wongo,
One comment however - you gotta buy some timber in lager sections so your panels dont look like laminated floor boards mate. (Dont mean to insult u, but thats my opninion only...)
I know yu got a swag of left over floor boards that need to be used but something as central as an entertainment unit should have some bulk IMNSHO.

Zed,
I know what you mean but it is just my style. I will use whatever I have first and buy more if really have to. It doesn’t bother me 1 bit. After all I have built a dinning table out of a pile of off-cuts. It is just the style of our home.
If it was for a client then I would probably do it differently.
BTW are you going to the show?Visit my website at www.myFineWoodWork.com
