    Smile my workshop!!!

    hi all....

i'd like to introduce myself to the forum. I've already made a post earlier on but i've just been bitten by The Bug and see myself spending more and more time in the backyard knocking things up so i finally decided to start getting myself a half decent workshop

So here are the results after a few frantic weeks of buying gear and clearing out 1 side of a double car garage (this is all i've been allowed so far).

the gear so far is my workbench which has been recently made. It's not like a "traditional workbench" but then before i started browsing through the internet etc, i really didnt have a clue what a traditional workbench was meant to be. The vice is still not attached properly.

The table saw is a KS-12K from Carba-tec. Bandsaw is a 14", again from Carba-tec as is the router table and triton router under it.

The sander is a 6" disc and 4" belt sander combo.

I'm still in the process of putting up the cabinets along the two walls and making proper stands for all the big kit inc TS and Bandsaw as i dont like the stands that come with those.

I've got another double car garage in FRONT of the current garage (that's where the cars go) so i'm thinking of blocking off the garage door alltogether and perhaps building a temporary wall with some ply wood to give me 3 walled sides. The otherside of this double car garage belongs to my partner (infact this whole garage belonged to her and i had a little shed in the backyard) but we've just come to an agreement with regards to boundaries and borders

Still got to get a few things like drill press, another router for overhand use and i've also ordered a system called Routermaster for slab work (which is really what i want to do). Oh i also need to get cracking on a Dust collection system and getting an extractor fan put in to allow some air flow.

Well, i just thought i'd share what i'm doing so far, so pls feel free to give me your comments, suggestions and thoughts.

Thanks again, i look forward to being a more active member of the forum.

    regards
    Jeelan

Welcome to the forum. Your credit card must have taken a hiding if you have obtained all that gear in only a few weeks. You look well set up to get into some projects now. Look forward to seeing some.

    Hi Jeelan,
Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you're going to pick up loads of inspiration, and help when you need.
That shed of yours seems mighty neat....the first couple of years will sort that out!

    Cheers,

    Welcome to the forum.

Love your shelving - wish I could put some up like that but all mine have to be free standing as the owner wont let me

Looks like your in the same situation as I am using a car bay in the garage - does your car tend to be left outside a lot as well?

    Default re my workshop

    hi all....

    thanks for the comments...

my next project are some basic cabinets for the laundry room with Cherry oak doors. I'm still learning how to apply appropriate finishes so i've been much around with small slabs that i picked up around the traps, sanding them down to about 800 - 1000 grit and then mucking around with different finishes to see how the grains are displayed.

Favourite so far is a two part epoxy that gives the surface a glass look but it's EXPENSIVE!!!!

Andraax: On the other side of the garage doors on this workshop I have another double car garage so the cars stay in doors. That way when i need a bigger area to work in, i'll move the cars out of the outer garage. i'm still working on making everything mobile so i can move the kit around as needed too.

re the bosch saw, that was my first purchase in Nov when i started sorting the shop out. While i bought it, initially i was apprehensive about it because it's got a sliding mechanism that allows about 300mm of travel (almost like a radial arm) and so to put it against a wall would have required me to take that into account and then it comes out too far. But having used it in virtually everything i've done, i wouldnt trade it at all

I only got the table saw last week and i'm still learning to be comfortable with it...

as for the router table..well i read the comments on MS-R on this forum but i'd already bought the damn thing by then so another project is to incorporate a router table onto the TS itself.

Today i'm picking up the Incra LS system from Timbecon so i'll post some pics when it's all installed.

Oh, and tax returns are paying for all this!! hehe..that makes it even more sweet!!!

    cheers

    Hi Jeelan,

Nice bench, despite what you said!

You clearly need many, many more clamps - and to get rid of those nut manglers (aka adjustable wrenches:eek:  )

Then a few nice planes, and chisels, and sharpening kit, and... So much. Gee, this is an addicts hobby if ever there was one.

    Welcome to the slippery path

    Cheers!

Oh dear, another victim! I can't believe that various WW emporiums keep selling this pile of poo! Fair trading springs to mind...

I hope that you find the Incra fence more to your liking

    Cheers!

I'm still learning the fine art of manipulating the other half to get what i want but from what i've noted there's many a folks on this forum who have perfected that technique so i'm working on it!!!!
