Default Yep, it's another Shed (WIP)

Here's a storage shed, a chill out shed, a graphic art painter's shed...

The need to make this came about as my 2nd bedroom, which is really a storage room for things that I can't find a place for... is now required as a nursery for my new baby girl.

Dimensions for shed is 4m long x 2.5m wide by 3m high.

The windows glass were salvaged from a mate's backyard, saved him a trip to the tips.

I made the doors from having a hardwood T&G flooring as the external face, this is nailed and glued to a prefab door, saved me time and effort and kept me on a tight budget. Door and window jambs are simply merbau decking timber.

Roofing is colourbond and poly for skylights, plenty of light comes through.

Flooring is yellow toungue, external walls are clad with blueboard.

My intension is to render the outside walls.

The whole shed is well insulated. It should be comfortable enough to have as an outhouse or when I get in trouble.

    It's coming along nicely.

Cool. Been thinking about doing this myself. Couple of questions - How did you do the piers ? and did you need to get council approval ?

    thanks

Looks good. Can assume the 4 x 2.5 dimension is to get around the need for planning permit for sheds under 10 sq metres?

I am looking to do something similar myself. I'd be interested in your rough costs.

    Cheers,

Yep, the current planning rule suggests that a shed this size shouldn't need council planning approval.

Arron, I used some red gum post 120 x 120 that I picked up for $10 for lengths of 1.5m to 2m. That was a reasonable $30 for more than I need.

As for the cost, it will be roughly $2000.

It may have cost me less but I had to balance this between where I can get materials at a reasonable budget and the time and convenience factor. I try not to drive across town costing me time and petrol to save myself a few dollars.

    Here's a few more pics...

Slow progress... 10 ~ 12 hours days at work and new baby at home... good excuses.
Have the done the lining and basic shelves. Really pushed for time, so no fancy joins of any sort. Need a practical storage shed right away...

looking nice on the inside as it does on the outside!

That will look very good once its finished!
Are you leaving the inside white or will you be painting it another colour?
What sort of light are you getting?
Geez long job and a new kid, not bad!

    Looks great!

I guess the blue is temporary, but I'm loving the contrast between the blue, the wood and the white. Good job.

    Folks, thanks for the encouragement.

I painted the interior with lowsheen white. With the twin skylight sheets, the room will stay bright and "airy" inside. The white interrior with the merbau window and door jambs looks nice.

I went with another budget option of laying vinyl over the floorboards. Easy to clean and again, saved me heaps of time and no mess. Unroll, cut, trim and voila.

As for lighting, I've got some flourescent boxes that my work place chucked out. Free and salvaged, just fine with me.

The next big job will be the render. Will keep you posted.

    Thanks for the interest.
