As posted in another thread - http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...t=36938&page=2 - I have come up with a simpler way of making the 22.5° mitre joint with the Domino, so it looks as though I need to make another zigzag chair for testing at the gtg.

Here is a picture of the through mortices (cut with the Domino using the settings mentioned in my previous post). It wouldn't be difficult to cut similar through mortices using the Rocker morticing jig with a 3/8" spiral upcut bit. It is essential to clamp on a backing piece, both to ensure the Domino's plate stays level on the workpiece and to prevent tearout as the cutter emerges.

Very interseting stuff David - keen to see how all this pans out.
Domi is a tool one can keep experimenting with, just like most other WW tools I believe, but with the bonus on near guaranteed accuracy if one thinks about the joint a little.

Here is the glued up joint, complete except for the brass locking pins, which I shall glue in tomorrow.
I have now finished the Z sections of the chair, which were still rough-sawn 150 x 50 boards early this morning. The woodwork of the chair should be finished tomorrow.

i have been reading all the zigzag chair and the R-chair proceedings and it is a privilege to look at the beautiful work and be gobsmacked at peoples abilities.
Bless you Rocker and thank you for showing us your work.
I find it to be very nourishing when people of skill and talent describe works in progress in word, diagram, and photo.

I have now completed three zigzag chairs in the last couple of weeks. I have not applied the finish to them, or fitted their upholstered seats, since I am waiting to test them by placing a thick board across the side rails and getting three forum members to stand on it to ensure that the chairs can stand up to heavy loads. The testing will be done in early November.
Tashammer,
Thanks for your kind words. It is hard to steer a middle course; I was accused a couple of days ago by a prominent member of the Forum of behaving like a prima donna and indulging in self-aggrandisement, so it is a relief to find that not everyone shares that view

I can't see why that would be. Your WIP posts have been very enlightening and I for one enjoy the way you keep trying new things - not just on this chair, but your many other projects.
If you make lots of posts, I guess it's because you make lots of projects - keep it up.

Well said young AlexS.
Now lets all make a cup of tea and show more pictures and tell more WIP adventures.
What we need is a writer cum anthologist who can put together Volume 1 of The Tales of the UBeaut Woodies. It is not hyperbole to say the sharing of stories here is history in the making good for us all to reread and chuckle as memories come back; for other woodies to read and laugh knowingly as their webfriends recount adventures similar to their own half a world away; or for families to read about what grandpa, great grandpa or great great grat grandpa did.
