    Hi all,

This still has some hours' work left to do on it (if you can call art 'work'!!), but I thought you may like to see it in progress. Does he look mean enough, yet? I've added some scars to his face, too, though they are hard to see in the low res. photo.

    Cheers,

    Jill

    Default Almost finished - Bull

    Hi all,

Apart from darkening the dog's coat - I think I'm done with this one. It is on A2 paper (approx. 600 x 400). Only 3 more to go!

    Cheers & thanks for looking,

    Jill

With those big droopy ears, no.
Maybe you can have the dog chew on one, mangle it a bit. As it is now, all I see is 'cuddly'

Lol, Wayne - ever faced a stirry one in a small round-yard?!! I love Brahmans, though, and the wildest cow we (when I was a kid) ever had was a Hereford! That didn't mean we didn't have some wild Brahmans, though! I had a stirry Brahman cow chase me (me on foot in a 2000 acre paddock) once - and I went round and round a little pathetic tree (like in the comics!), then jumped on a equally pathetic pile of stick-raked trees - my feet were seriously flapping on that little round log (I thought your knees were meant to knock?!), until she decided to run off! I only got horned up the arm while we were doing the charge around the tree thing, so no real harm done!

You know - I did think of giving him slightly mangled ears, AND and ear mark, but then forgot when working on it - rats!

    Cheers,

    Jill (of the much waffling!!)

I really like your "little cowboy", especially the different textures of the skin, the hat, and the denim (and even the two slightly different textures of denim in the jacket and the trousers). The grass is very well done, and I like the fact that you've left the background blank: focusses on the true subject. You've captured a nice expression; you can see him as a little boy, approaching transition, and you can sense him as a man. Brilliant stuff.

    Thanks for posting.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Thank you Stirlo! I will keep going -I only really have this week! I have to have the entry form in by the 15th of this month, and the paintings/works in by the 18th. Yikes! I don't normally drink coffee, but maybe I should O.D. on it for the next week!!!

Hi Zenwood. That one of Brenton is my fav', too - and thanks for your take on my rendition of him! Hmmm - lots of artists would consider it unfinished due to the lack of full background, but I agree with you - I like the subject to stand out - esp. for portraiture.

    Cheers,

    Jill

i rekon it would look better without a background. all a background would do is draw away from the main image. all IMO.

Thanks, Sam - it has been good for me to have everyone's feedback!

Thanks again, Stirlo. I agree with you - though when done in colour it's different, isn't it.

Here's the latest WIP for your perusal. Our eldest daughter modelled for it, and I've glamourised it somewhat (mainly only helped her lose a bit of weight - 'ping' - just like that, with the sweep of a pastel stick!). This is on 750 x 550 mm masonite panel prepared with Art Spectrum pastel primer, and done with pastels. This is only a small part of the pic - she is sitting at a piano. Finished by this afternoon, all being well - without any coffee!!!

    Cheers,

    Jill

    Default Finished!

Here it is, all done, now I think. Complete with fine glitter here and there to add some more sparkle! No coffee! I've enough adrenalin to keep me going, now - I just sent off the entry form and fees! Yikes!

I just started another one this afternoon - "Emu Shadows" - inspired by Cliff's post on the camel pic. I'll hopefully finish it and post it tomorrow night.

The paintings/artworks all have have to be delivered next Thurs. Opening night is Fri. p.m.

    Cheers,

    Jill

No offence to your cow/bull but this one's much easier on the eyes, isn't she lovely !
Now I know where Chantelle got her skill with eyes from, you've done them exceptionally well I think.
Unfortunately can't see the glitter in the pic (here or the email) so can't tell what effect it has on the work.
All the best for the show too, you'll slay em !!

When you think about it that's quite a power you have at your fingertips Jill, don't like something 'poof' it's gone, something missing 'abracadabra' it's in. Now, I'm thinking this is a skill I could take advantage of, no weight problem, just a slight hair problem, oh and too much NEAT I've been told. Perhaps we can make a deal sometime

Thanks Stirlo - you've done a great job cheering me on!

Thanks Wayne...lolol...'neat' is a compliment in my neck of the woods, but...let me see, I could dream up a pretty wild hairdo and beard for you, I think!!!! Lol - shame I couldn't whip up something on the comp. just for the laugh!

Thanks for the vote of confidence! If I sell a couple I will be happy!

Here's my latest, still damp!! I'm off to do some more on my last one, now - I'm on a roll!

    Cheers,

Jill (Insert imaginary smiley that looks like a marathon runner at the end of the race - head hanging down, tongue hanging out, paintbrush in hand, pastel dust all over him)

Very wel done once again your works are terrific.

All the best for the upcoming show.

I could do with a few of those magic pastels myself. As one gets older its hard to keep the weight from appearing
