Hi DJ - still here - took a bit of mucking around to get this one to download.

Thanks for the kudos! I didn't end up selling any at the artshow, but it was in a small town & probably not a LOT of buyers through the show. But I now have them in an online gallery & planning a family exhibition sometime next year...after we finish the house of course!

Thanks Robbie - I love really detailed drawings - and I've always loved doing portraiture the most. Now our kids do, also, and are doing some fantastic work - they're streets ahead of where they were at when I posted some of theirs last!

Thanks Matrix - these are done with graphite pencils...solid graphite in 2B and 6B, plus woodcase in 2H and HB, 0.5mm HB mechanical pencil, 0.7mm 2B mech. pencil, tortillons and make-up removal pads for blending, and blu tak & a clik eraser (retractable 'pencil' type - allowing for removal of really fine lines cleanly) - that's about it! Quite an arsenal, really, compared to what I used to use! For smooth skin tones, I kind of 'paint' the graphite on with the makeup removal pads, then use the blu tak to remove it from highlight areas & so on.

Thanks Harry - I do try to capture the expressions...and thank goodness for photography & computers - you could never get such lively art happening without being able to capture the fleeting emotion/expression with the click of a shutter! And with the computer, you can greyscale the photo, create 3 or 4 different shots of it with varying light/contrast levels - and it makes it so much easier to get all the details & also then the depth of the darks you want as well.

How long does it take you to complete one of these drawings, and do you usually do it in one session?

Hi Martrix - the one of our son on another thread (Artshow one) took about 15 hrs, the one of the two girls on this thread took about the same, maybe more (two faces to draw), and the one of Danita on this thread I didn't take the time to note how long, but perhaps similar or a little less? Depending on how much detail I add!

Lol - not in one sitting, since I have to do it in the dark, early mornings (with a daylight bulb) after my hubby goes to work, and the kids are still sleeping, and then in snatches during the day if I get the chance after we do school and before building work - then after tea at night - once again under lights! Since I am addicted, I fit it in whenever I can! I am working on getting as much realism in the shortest time possible, using whatever tools and techniques I can dream up or learn from others!

I will add to it as I finish more. There's an oil painting of a sunset seascape on my easel right now that is almost finished that'll be on there maybe next week. I may also put these ones of our kids on there just as samples for commission work - not sure. I just finished another one last night that I'll add to this thread - it's still too dark to take a photo this morning, yet!
