To bring this back to woodworking... are there any finishes out there that would stand up to the levels of alcohol present in spirits? I can imagine that any wax- or shellac-based finishes would dissolve pretty quickly... Just imagine - dark timber and dark spirits on one side, and light timber and clear spirits (gin, vodka, tequila (:eek etc.) on the other. I'd play that...

OK, you guys are going to love this, but there actually IS a game like this!!! It is called "Tablero de Jesus" and was a popular form of game in the fifteenth century (yes, I am a historian). Often the game was played with coins, you got to keep any of your opponents coins you could capture, but it can also be played with spirits in shot glasses. From my own experience I can tell you it can get very rough on the old guts after the first few games............ There is the "suicide" version where your opponent has to drink the glasses you capture- good if you are drinking bad vodka!
