    Default Clarification

    Admin and woodies,

Can any one advise the meaning of "Smilies and outside links" dont use them.
I have formed the opinion that you should not use the little iconic figures in your posts nor should you put in a link to an outside site. I have in the past mostly used my Photo site to post anything I have made, believing that this will not use up server space. I have some more piccys to show but am reluctant to post the viewing details here. I have had a lot of lookers at the piccys around 7400. Has this been done to reduce the threat of the Virus contamination? or perhaps someone knows the reason.

The advice appears to be pretty clear, DONT. Do I have the right concept in place here, Thanks in advance

    Regards Mike

Mike, I think you have it right, but only the admins can confirm your comments for sure.

    Mike,

I think you will find that you may use smilies that are on this forum also there is a page with extra smilies that may be used here but you are not meant to use smilies from companys that have a link back to there web site ect. I hope I have that right.

    Cheers Ian

Think Ian's correct, there were some smilies came in from outside with nasties in them. No doubt the moderators will clarify the picture.

I don't think there is any problem linking to your photos provided they are on your site or a photo host site. The issue here is the size of the photo that you post as it is shown within the body of your message which means that anybody who opens up your thread has to wait for the large images to show. The trick here is to keep file size down, 72 dpi is all you need for on screen viewing, if anybody wants a high quality image for printing they can email you.

The problem comes from external smilie places, such as smiliecentral.

If you need extra smilies apart from the smilies in the reply box, use these.

As you can see, they are from the same place as the woodworking forums.

Piccys from exteral sites also cause problems.
The biggest problem is spyware, viruses, etc.

Some members are on dial up, so if you include an external link to a picture that is 1Meg in size it chews up their bandwidth and takes ages to appear on their screen.

Thanks for the guidance and just thought maybe I broke the rules, but as it turns out I've been a good woodie and not done any thing wrong. Your help is appreciated.
