Lol, you guys! She's working hard trying to keep up to Chantelle, I think! The main thing is that they enjoy it, but also are eager to improve constantly.

    Cheers,

    Jill

I've been reliably informed you and the girls had a win recently, and rightly so too.
Don't be shy Jill fill everyone in, if you don't I will

Lol, Wayne - just found this!

Okay, since Wayne twisted my arm...Chantelle won first prize in her first ever art show with her cockatoo drawing, Shakira came third in the same section, with her kingfisher pastel painting, and I came second in another section with my joey (I think I posted it in another thread on here?). Anyway - we were all pretty chuffed! Not so much for the head-swell, mind you, (since even the kids are aiming to be able to produce work that is 'up there' with the best of the wildlife artists so they don't get too carried away with it), but for the credibility it brings. The only way to get yourself out there with art, is to compete and get some recognition, it seems. They'll put some of their work in the local Show, soon, too. Also, the kids and I are going to join the Wildlife Artists Society of Australia, soon, and I am aiming for another couple of organisations, too (next year) - plus I might put some of our work in a couple of galleries around the place here. Might get set up for selling archival quality prints down the track, since Chantelle puts many, many hours into hers, and doesn't want to sell them, but would love to sell prints of them....now we need another shed!

Cheers & thanks for all the interest & encouragement - & esp. you Wayne!!

make a nice cloth print, say on a doona cover. Haven't seen an Australian native aminule doona cover.

How long did it take you Jill to draw the sugar glider?

    Thanks for the reply, Tashammer!

I'm not sure I took note how long the sugar glider took me to do, and being a while ago...I've also forgotten exactly, but it would have been between 15 - 25 hours, as the fine squiggles of sharp charcoal pencil over the pastel for the fur would have taken a long time, alone, let alone the layers of pastel, mucking around with the eyes, etc.

It would be good to have a way to print onto fabric, as painting on fabric (since it moves all the time!) is very hard to get this kind of detail!

    Cheers,

    Jill

now that wildlife artistry is exacting with those single hair brushes and big magnifying lenses. i knew somebody once who won a Churchill Fellowship for her work. Talented lady, was a pianist as well. But the detail, ooohhhhh, lurv the detail.

re printing. how do they do t-shirts then?

you could produce t-shirts and i would buy more than 1 if they came in humoungous sizes that is. Just think, my own t-shirt signed by a world famous family of wildlife artists. Sigh.

it's the boy possums that make the noise chasing the lady possums. it's their tackle that makes the tin rattle, he said with tears in his eyes.

hmm, there is almost a bit of doggerel there.

Oops, sorry Tashammer, missed these! Thanks for the feedback, again! Not sure if we'll go commercial - might take some of the fun out of it?! Maybe when the kids are older they may want to. Lol about the 'world famous' bit!!

    Cheers,

    Jill
