Default A couple of WIP artworks

    Hi everyone,

I thought I'd share a couple of pics of the artworks Chantelle (10 y.o. daughter, for those who don't know) and I are working on at the moment.

First pic is Chantelle's Cockatoo in graphite - still lots more to do on it yet, plus a background.

2nd one is the sugar glider (or Squirrel Glider, if you want to get technical) that I am doing in pastels and charcoal. Loads more to do on it, too, yet - including more work on the fur on it's back & tail.

    Cheers,

    Jill

    Thumbs up

    G'day Jill,

Chantelle's illustration is way beyond a girl of her age. My folks saw my talent at an early age and encouraged me to follow it and I did. I'd be doing the same for Chantelle. But I'm sure you'd probably be doing that anyway.

    Chantelle, you've got talent.
I make things, I just take a long time.

Chantelle has more artistic skill than I can dream of having!
She is a talented and lucky girl.

When artistic talent was handed out, you obviously got my share. The Sugar glider is awsome.

EDIT: Forgot to say that Chantelle's Cocky is brilliant.

    Lol, Wendy & thanks!

Thanks, Alex - though no more amazing than people like you are with your woodwork!

Thanks, Waldo - don't worry, she's in good hands!! The Sugar Glider is my work, so she is getting plenty of in-house tuition, too. Do you know of any fine art printers in Australia that do calendars? I was thinking of getting a calendar printed (maybe next year) with Chantelle's artwork. The other kids are all talented, too, but not able to put in as much time as Chantelle is at this stage, so I have to be careful that my encouragement of one doesn't become DIS-couragement for the others. I'm hoping to organise a family Art Exhibition next year, and also, we're putting some work in the local Show and the Griffin Festival (here in Sept.) They don't have a kids' art section, but they can all put their work in with the adults', I'm sure.

Thanks ptc - I will post them when done - still more to do on both, yet!

Thanks Clinton! She pushes for excellence, so tends to see each drawing as a learning curve - like we do with our woodwork!

Thanks Chris - this was my first try with doing marsupial fur of this type, and I was surprised that my idea of using the charcoal pencil over the pastel came up like I wanted - one of those Eureka moments!!! Chantelle's works constantly amaze me - and since Wayne (The Pope) found an Art forum for us, the kids' work (and mine) has improved a lot.

Thanks Ironwood! And ohno - she and I are going to build her desk & bed down the track (after the house is done) - with pyrography on them. And her wardrobe doors I still haven't done, but they'll be just like big picture frames, with inserts that she can pull out to repaint over!! With a loft roof, and sharing a room, she doesn't have much room to put up her artwork, so I figured she can use the 6 wardrobe doors! As for chisels - she already plans on getting a log and carving an owl on the top - like it is on a fencepost! We have a Boobook owl that lives around here, that she loves. I'm not game to let her use chisels at 10 y.o., though!!!

Thanks everyone, for your interest! I'll post the finished drawings in the next few days, all being well.

    Cheers,

    Jill

    G'day Jill,

There are plenty of Fine Art printers around or commercial printers who have a very good reputation, but you'd find that costs are quite high, unless of course you are looking at high print runs to bring the cost down but then you'd be looking at a quantity of 30,000 or greater.

These blokes are on your side of the country and could be worth investigating - they're good for low volume jobs and have a good reputation: https://www.heroprint.com.au/

I got my first set of chisels when i was nine. But hey. The moment you start taking parenting advice from anonymous strangers on the internet is the moment child welfare steps in.

Ps. I like the cocky drawing as is. I like minimal understated artwork. But thats just me.

Look forward to seeing the cocky finished, she's going great so far. We've stacks of em round here, christ they make a racket.

Glider is gorgeous, great work on the fur too.

btw: What's pyrography, not sure I've heard the term before.
    Cheers

Thanks Waldo - I'll check them out when I have time! A guy in Hong Kong was able to get a fine art printing co. to print calendars for him, that he can retail at $16 US! Maybe I should check out the same printing company!

Hi again, Ben! Ahhhhh, so - how many digits do you own?! Depends a lot on the child, too, I'm sure! Some would be more safe with chisels than others would be with a sharp knife at the table! Our kids are co-ordinated and can work safely, so ve shall see...when the house is done!

Hi Wayne!! Sending attachments is still hit and miss with the Sat. b'band, so I was hoping you'd find these! We miss the Sulphur-crested cockatoos...but we have loads of the black cockatoos over here & they sure make a racket, too!!! Pyrography - sounds so 'up there', but it's just woodburning!

    Cheers,

    Jill

    Hi all,

I finally finished this little guy! Took some building time off in the middle of the day, since it was too cold & wet to work for a bit today & I'm trying to fight off the flu'!

Chantelle still hasn't finished her cockatoo, as she's had the flu. I'll post it later on.

Our windows still aren't finished - hopefully this week! Plenty to do in the meantime. I'll update house pics on Sunday, hopefully.

    Cheers,

    Jill
