They are great photos Lignum. Some of the set have been doing the internet rounds with the accompanying story about how the film was recently found in an old Brownie camera in a foot locker and subsequently processed.

They were no doubt taken by a skilled professional with a damn good camera!

    Terry,

Those are great pics! I think I'll download them and use them for something appropriate. Maybe a shadow box.
    Cheers,

What a great idea. Im going to keep them as well. Pics 7,10,13,14,15 are my favs with 10, 13 and 14 sensarional. The amazing contrast between the brightness of the initial explosion againsed the various shads of grey is stunning.

Barry do you have any links. Love to read and see some more. And you are correct about the skill of the photographer. Amazing stuff. It would be good to find out who he was and to see more of his work.

I am not sure but I am suspicious that they were taken on the same role - some of scenes, battleship row, the Naval Airstation and Hickam field etc seem contemporous in time with the attack going on. Seems odd that the same person could be in all places during the attack. Possible given the attack lasted from 0755 to 0945 local time. Spectacular photos non-the-less.

Blaming the current generation of Japanese is as valid blaming our generation for what was done to the aboriginal people of our country. It's well and truly time to move on.

My family suffered at the hands of the Japanese like all other families that had family members fighting the Japanese. At least one dead (another we're still not sure about but presumed dead), two POW's (one of those on Ambon from Gull Force) and several other men who though returned suffered the rest of their lives either physically from the privations of war, illnesses acquired in war (e.g. malaria) or arguably worst of all, mentally with what we now call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

That said, I don't like how the Japanese people see themselves as victims of the war they started and while I feel for the people of Nagasaki and Hiroshima for what happened to them, in reality their predicament was the logical conclusion of the total war that was started on their behalf. Saying that Allied forces should not have used every weapon at their disposal is stupid. The alternative would have been even bloodier for the Japanese people and the casualties for Allied soldiers would have been equally appalling. You only have to look at what happened in earlier campaigns to see that.

edit:On a related topic of WWII, I recently stumbled on some interesting pics of how they camouflaged an aircraft factory from the air:
