Me new shed WIP
The process of building my new shed.
Its an 80x40x12'(24x12x3.6m)all zinc, 2 roller doors 1 pa door fully insulated.
The plot, its 10ac 2km out of town... just right.
It was a practice racing track(horse), hasnt been used for a few years and had been through a few owners who did nothing except reep the capital gain profits.
Its zoned general farming, so this allows me to put up any sized shed with no colourbond needed, the only critera was it had to be 20m back from the road boundry.
The hills are the "Flinders Rangers"
We are intending to build our house here too.
The site 60m in was unlevel sloping down towards the back of the site, ended up with 18" of fill at the deep end.
We scraped up about 100m of the racing track to use as the main fill, I estimate it would have been 120~150m2 of fill.
On top of this I put approx 4" of road base(65tons of it!), you can see the 1st 2 loads in the pic.
Doesnt look like a 80x40 shed!
But up it up...
Just a little bit of insulation and me trusty old ute

Great looking shed. At least your priorities are right - shed up first.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Harry,
Fantastic absolutely fantastic.
I love those Flinders Ranges, their colours are something special.
I don't know why these other woodworkers muck around in pokie little sheds with no views
Don't worry, I know what's like to live in a cramped $hitty with very little space for a shed.
I look forward to seeing your progress.- Wood Borer

I hope they do DJ, be a waste of 4k otherwise
Mike, one of the roller doors will be facing them... right where the woodwork will be happening....................................................................

Makes me feel homesick seeing the Flinders Ranges again, spent many a week camping there.
Great site for a shed (and house) Harry, you won't be running out of room in a hurry

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.
BSF, give me a couple years it'll be to small.
Im making the WW area 20x40', I have 16.5x40' now its big enough for most work but once I start building something like a bar(currently making one now...4m+ long)I struggle and still need to move things around to do the job.
But if I can get all my wood and lathe gear out of the way it'll be perfect, hence the middle 40x40' this will be a storage area for stock/parts racks and a small amenities area with possibly a 10x8' lathe room.
The other alternative, I need to build a new housing bay/enclosure for my current dust extraction system I could build it and the lathe room into one.
Just brought another 3hp dusty the same as mine, so I can run them in parallel into a sealed common chamber with my 2 PFC filters as the outlet. I cant get 3ph, 1ph 240v only(@100amps) my bro in law(industrial sparky) can set up a start up delay so they kick in one after the other.
Still uncertain what to do with the floor, I have enough budget to concrete the lot but I really would like a wooden floor to woodwork on. Did a rough pricing and I can do the 20X40 at about the same price in treated pine stumps/joists/bearers and 25mm pine floorboards from a local sawmiller/forester, but that's with me making the floor boards I have the machinery its just doing it.
It may well be easier to go with a yellowtounge or ply flooring?
Plus the wood floor allows me to hide a few things
The last 20x40 will be the metalwork area sans parking spot for my traytop truck.....................................................................

Harry, may I ask what the budget for this little endeavour is ? (for shed, slab, and electricals)?
still trying to work out how much money I have to save to build a 'decent' shed, and this well and truly fits the 'decent' category, I'd say!
