    Default steel storage,vertical or horizontal?

looking for ideas to build a rack of sorts for all those small "useful" offcuts of steel bar, rhs, shs, angle etc that have built up over time, any ideas? my first thought was up and down but not so sure after looking thru the pile, longest peice is about 4' or so, thanks.

I store my off cuts on a simple rack. All small pieces go onto a solid shelf as part of the rack.

I put mines on 3-tier long shelf. Laid horizontally along the shelf.
Far easy to pick up and put down than the vertical alignment.

I have done quite a bit of "shopping" at a small local place, Interior Crop Steel.
All kinds of lengths, from maybe 5cm to 6m. Everything is stored horizontal.
Very easy to pick through for the right length when I think I've found the X-section that I want.

I think that vertical, the short bits can fall over behind the longer pieces and get lost, like my dowel off-cuts.

I tried vertical storage for years and then eventually went for this.

Despite the concerns discussed in that thread it is still standing
