hired a new shop assistant recently
well, there's no other way to say it. He's a dwarf. but seing as I'm not one to discriminate on the basis of such things and he seemed real enthusiastic, I thought I'd give him a try.
well, the first day wen't pretty well. He seemed to be a zealot about workshop safety and even refused to take his earmuffs off when we were just working with hand tools. he also got along well with my other employees.
He seemed to have a hard time reaching the work surfaces much less the ON switches, but I'm sure he'll knock up some step stools soon enough.
in the mean time he busied himself organising my tool box:
and he has proved himself brilliant with electric motors and has every motor in the shop running ship shape:
He also seems to be an linguistical genius. Here he is explaining to me the intricacies of translating Rocker's chair plans into Arabic (in red):
and finally I was happy to find out that despite all his intellectual skills he is not affraid to get dirty doing all the mundane things like cleaning up shop at the end of the day.
All in all, I think I'll keep him.

(thanks guys for humoring me while I show off my awesome son and test out Photobucket as an appropriate free photo hosting site. Hope you enjoyed this peek of my kiddo and shop. )Last edited by ryanarcher; 25th March 2005 at 04:22 PM.

Nice one, Ryan & Co. Fine looking new employee and very tidy shed, I might add. I've just come in after changing a length of pine into "curlies", for my 6 yr old boy. 'Course my shed is a disgrace and I used the old brick barbie as a bench!
Have a good one.

Mate just a quick query for you. I noticed in your photographs what looked like a piece of food in your son's hand. Now call me old fashioned but I thought paying employees in food went out a long time ago. You might want to be careful if you don't want AWA on your back...
Ha ha
Cheers

Excellent.
But as I can see in Picture 1, you might want to point out to him that when having 'smoko break' you can stop workingBrett

I don't think he is thinking of "mundane things". He is pointing to Rocker's Rocker Plans and saying "When do I start on this project, Dad?"

Now, I initially wondered where he learned that language, then i realised that phrase was strikingly familiar. I have since taken Rocker off my son's buddy list and monitor his computer time.

You're a very lucky man Ryan and so is your son! He has a shitload of tools to inherit!
I spy with my little eye..... lots of festool and dewalt boxes, and one sagging shelf of books!
Not picking, just an observation (Mine sag too! )The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.
