    Default A Small Problem I have ?.

    Hi All,
I have bought a 2002 iPAQ H3850 Pocket PC, & at a very low price.
The Battery has Died, & of course I would like a new one, but I'm having trouble finding one. It has to be 1700 mAH. Would most likely measure 80mm x 55mm x 10mm.
I have no Manual either, so am guessing the size. The PC is in VG Condition.
One Lady, wants $ 60, in Vic. but I saw another add for one at $17, NSW, but I can't find it now.
Ebay has nothing, Gumtree as well. Have asked HP, but no luck there.
Phoned a Chap with one, but he had never changed the Battery.
Somebody must know something about them & where I may find a Battery.
Almost forgot, they are in the UK,& USA & H Kong, but I would rather buy in OZ.

    H E L P.
    Regards,

    issatree,

Try this site. There should be some numbers on the battery itself.

You may not find your PC in there but the battery may have been used in other models.

I have used them before and found they where quite good.

Another option is: Batteries, Chargers & Power Adapters from PSA Parts Australia
They are based in Richmond, Vic.
Ive used them a few times.

Your Ipaq might be listed as Compaq or HP.
It's also possible a number machines from the 3800 series will take the same battery.

Sometimes these things were sold under different model numbers to different markets like business vs education vs retail or usa vs asiapac vs europe. Essentally the same but specs and model# a little diff. But battery still the same.
Originally it probably came with a couple of battery capacities as options. One much larger than the other. That might explain the variation is prices you've seen.

As well, 3rd party battery packs often come in lower capacity than original. Tha's usually not too much of an issue but does account for some pricing differences.

    Forgot to mention this option.

If you are near a business equipment supplier, that was in business 10 years ago, was a HP/Compaq reseller and doesn't expect you buy from them ..... then maybe they can tell you all your battery options. It's not as far fetched as it sounds.

    Not Officeworks or HNorman
HP are a corporate giant whose phone staff will have forgotten a 10 yr old device, if they even knew it.

Bear in mind too that it doesn't have to be a 1700mAh battery. The physical size and connections have to match, and the voltage has to match, but mAh is a measure of how long the battery will last between charges, not whether it is compatible or not. If the replacement is less than 1700mAh, then you will need to recharge more often. If it is more, then you will get more use between charges.
The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

"Standard" original spec was 1400mAh according to HP website. Veracity of 3rd party replacement capacity claims are hard to test but at least they're much cheaper than genuine.

    Default The Battery.

    Hi All,
Had a big look at your recommendations.
Seems the OZ ones are the dearest.
There was 1 very close from the Netherlands.
They quoted iPAQ 3850, where as mine is iPAQ H3850.
I'm not sure if there is any difference, but I think it would be a better option to get the right 1.
A little confusing on the Serial No's. as well.
    Regards,
    issatree.

I've bought batteries for various electronic items from Wagner in Ashfield, NSW.

Their prices (in all cases but one) were far better than any other place I could find.

    Default Another Problem.

    Hi All Again,
Well, so much for searching for a Battery for this PDA, & when you find something, you think " Beaudy, here we go ", then the disappointment sets in as to where in the heck are these so called Sellers.
I find it very hard to find out if it is OZ or anywhere else for that matter.
Why is it the sellers, don't want you to know where they are, be it UK, USA, H KONG. The best one I found to be up front was the Netherlands.

    What say You ?.
    Regards,
    issatree.
