Default America says no to vegemite ?

Whats that all about ? ..did I hear that right ? ........ something on the TV that the Americans are banning it ? ..

I don't think I could live without the stuff personally. I mean, I'd feel all wierd, dressed in my suit, during my next business trip to New York, if I have to eat bloody pancakes with maple sirup every morning!!...,,,cold toast with heaps of butter and vegimite, and a cuppa...or nothing at all thankyou very much !!

Might have to smuggle in a dozern jars with me ,,,,, in my briefcase.

    G'day Jake,

Let them ban it, they don't know what they're missing out on.

Maybe they've gone all politically correct because it's black and some sort of mumbo jumbo carp.

Theyre shooting themselves in the foot...Vegemite is made by Kraft, an American owned company. If they ban it then it'll mean less profits going back to yankeeland.

Agree with you Wongo. I think in order to like it, you have to have been spoon fed the stuff as a baby.

Still, it's a bit harsh to ban it. I don't know any Americans who actually like it, so it really only affects the expat Aussies.

There are certainly products on the shelves in the US that taste bad (although arguably none taste as bad as vegemite) and certainly products on the shelves that are much worse for you than vegemite, so it seems a bit silly to ban the c--p, er, product because it contains (gasp) folate .

I see Big Macs and other cr*p junk food as more of a threat to the health of Americans than Vegemite. It shows the people in power have no idea of what theyre doing.

Out on an oil rig off coast of New Zealand at present. In the galley they have both Vegemite and Marmite. Had a quick check on the levels in the jars and they seem to be going through far more Marmite than Vegemite. Ive noticed quite a few of the Americans on board going for the Marmite rather than the Vegemite.

So that's what they did with Pharlap after he died! Musta been a big horse to last this long! And I thought "dead horse" was tomato sauce!

But really, who cares? Anybody who says that black crepe tastes good oughta have his/her taste buds replaced.

Sorry, I am also a Vegemite kid
    - don't really care what the Yanks do at their place [bit much that they are searching the Aussies for it though]:eek:
but what concerns me is that they influence others - ie I have travelled to Europe and taken Vegemite in the luggage for personal use - even send it to rellies in Denmark - If they influence the others that it could be some sort of danger then we could all be in strife.

Must've missed something. What's the danger? Folate is good for you, isn't it?

I've just read that it's banned in the US because folic acid is only allowed in breads and cereals. So it's OK in bread and wheeties but not in vegemite.

I'm so glad we've chosen their coat tails to swing off.

Folate is Vitamin B9 and does no harm (I think) in moderation. Actually B9 is recommended for pregnant women.
Is, perhaps, the amount of folate present in Vegemite the problem??
I can't remember a time when I was without it in my diet.
