Anti-aging - Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Although pressurized oxygen chambers have been around for decades apparently the first anti-aging study using them has just been published and the results are amazing to say the least. What's now known is that this kind of oxygen therapy elongates what are known as your cell's telomeres, the shortening of which are directly related to, and may possibly be the cause of aging. To make a long story short, influencing telomere length is THE holy grail of anti-aging research.
So what's involved in a treatment session is getting yourself into a pressurized vessel not unlike a large propane tank. 100% oxygen is pumped in until 2.5 - 3 atmospheres is reached. Depending on what condition the therapy is prescribed for these sessions can last anywhere from 20 min to 2 hours. The benefits of pressurized oxygen have been long established and are far too long to list, from wounds that won't heal to stroke and pre-stroke victims.
The problem is that, although this therapy is technically fairly simple, it remains extremely expensive and can only be had through a doctor's prescription. Until this research was published a few months ago it wasn't known just how beneficial this therapy could be to the average person and has been reserved for patients with debilitating conditions. So my question is, how do I make one of these things happen?
Here's an example of a homemade version I think is very doable...

So what are your all's ideas on making one of these? Where would you go to find a chamber like that for starting material?

Little update is that apparently the people who build these devices for home use don't actually pressurize with 100% oxygen. Instead they pressurize with regular air and breathe oxygen through a mask while they're in the chamber.

Sounds like good way to prematurely end your life - in a puff of smoke no less?
Reminds me a bit of the "two bricks short of a barrow" 170kg chap at the weekly diabetes education classes who was constantly on the look out for a magic bullet. One day he asked the diabetic diet educator about fish oil - he'd heard it could cure diabetes. The somewhat timid/gentle educator said it was unlikely and that he should talk to his doctor about it. Next week Mr fishoil (as he became known) was absent and according to hs 50kg "friend", who was also diabetic, fish oil man had taken so much fish oil that he was in hospital with a few "tummy problems"

Hyperbaric chambers are routinely used for wounds or injuries that won't heal normally. I was nearly put in one for that specific reason but in the end it wasn't needed. The way things are going in this world I am not sure I want to stick around for any extended periods.

I found an interesting scientific study here. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases telomere length and decreases immunosenescence in isolated blood cells: a prospective trial (nih.gov)
Researchers in Israel subjected a small number of people to hyperbaric 100% oxygen exposure, (30 cycles per day!) and found a number of positive outcomes including increased telomere length, T Helper counts and cyclotoxic T cell counts. All good stuff but I suspect eating walnuts and frequent exercise might prove a simpler solution.
The use of a home made pressure vessel might prove counter productive to someone seeking to extend their life.

Thanks for the continued advice everyone. Looks like this one has turned out to be way way out of my league. Glad to have been steered away.
