Brrrrr I get shivers up my spine just thinking about it. I hope the hand and nerves are ok, I think the only anti-venom is beer and the cricket and keeping out of this heat!!

yeah, i know how you feel. The ones that are big enough to wear a pair of paints and reach the door handle:eek: .

Have a look at this.....if you are scared of them...well.... it wont help

A dirty big spider is the reason I was allowed to install automatic door openers on the garage.

My missus used to work 4pm till 2 am and she got home one night went to open the shed door and sitting there at head height was a beautiful specimen of a huntsman. SWMBO sceamed and I flew out of bed dragged on me undies and ran out to find the nieighbours watching my wife sitting in her car window came down an inch and she was screaming so much I could not understand her. Eventually I saw the spider and killed it, turned to see my neighbours all staring at me, I was in my undies and they were not of good repair!!!!!

We laugh about it now but the, then sixteen year old girl still has nightmares about my lack of coverage.

Well add me to the list of casualties, the mental images are just horrific I hope the 16 yo has had some sleep since coz that would haunt you for life.

I'm a "glass and bit of paper" kind of guy, I like to gently usher them outside to keep the other bugs away. Huntsmen hold no fear for me, but I'm not sure it's a good thing. A few years ago I caught miss 4 picking up a middling sized one to take outside... in just her hand! :eek:

As she let it go in the bushes she was talking to it, saying "There ya go, better out than in, eh?" (Can you guess where she got that from? )

On the other hand, my younger bro is at the other end of the scale. We were in his 4x4 on an emergency supply run to the bottlo when he flipped down his visor... and there it was. Now Pete is a BIG, beefy bloke. Shaved head, mo, a general rough nut. Who'd have thought he could make such a girly shriek? A screech of brakes, down went his window and he started waving the Melways (street directory) in its' general direction, trying to shoo it out while staying as far away as possible. After a while, it leisurely ambled out the window onto the outside windscreen... I suspect 'cos it wasn't as windy out there. So, up goes the window and on go the windscreen wipers, the washers, you name it.... and it scuttled onto the roof.

We finally made it to the bottlo, but he wouldn't wind his window down to order... I had to get out of the 4x and do a check of the roof to tell him "it's safe to get out now." Bloody great wuss! [snigger]

I had one fall off the sunvisor and onto the wheel, crawled up my arm, over the shoulder to a shelf on the back of the ute and sat there and enjoyed the view. Used to reappear every now and then although I'm not sure what he lived on. You big bunch of girls, there almost harmless, you can pick them up by letting them crawl onto your hand and just steer them from arm to arm until you get them outside, then let them hop off. They knock off all sorts of annoying pests and are a plus to the enviroment. They only bite when frightened, so between finger pickups is not a good odea, the need to be able to move unrestricted, now stingrays there is a different story.

they are good at waking you up too .. going to work one morning, its early and im still a bit sleepy with head tilted towards side window. Out of corner of my eye I see something, heres this decent sized huntsman crawling along inside of window.

didnt freak out or anything, but it sure woke me up

The other scary thing is that they can jump further than an olympic long jumper.

This is a true story.
Stopped at traffic lights,.... right turning lane beside me stops.... and its our turn, summer day window down, drop the visor theres a f big huntsman sitting there, well... one swipe hes out the window and into the car beside me, dam it our lights turn green were gone amid much screaming and blaring of horn etc

Even though they're basically harmless you get a bit of a heartstart when you go to pick up a limb in the bush and end up with a handful of huntsy instead.

Encountered another one in the bush a few years ago and he sat up on his back legs just like a bullant does. Got swatted very fast.

You should confront your fears, if you are scared of snakes then go to a reptile park and hold one

With Fright


One of the only reasons to get married was so SHMBO could deal with the spiders , the reason I chose a seagoing occupation was cause theres no spiders at sea.
I am not scared of spiders more terrified
Bitten by a large huntsman at age 5 and can still remember it.
Surface spray is worth every cent and if possible a blue tonge in the yard is a real asset.:eek:
